When you're at the same tournament as a coach with a desire to coach here, and enough prominence to get an interview on sports radio, as well as consistent coverage on multiple online outlets, you can and should interview that candidate

And yet no one hired him

Cool. Big ass porterhouse MR with a twice baked potato and side of asparagus plus a big red California bottle. For desert I'll take a Macallan 18 with one cube.

Doubtful the Rags entertain a trade for that pick. Kakko is a future star.

Maybe not both first rounders but posters did mention at least trading one of them to make the team better this year.

I find it hard to believe. Even if this was the case, which, he already said his contract is up at end of worlds, I highly doubt IIHF wouldn't let him discuss a contract, let alone go to an interview, to be an NHL head coach. Especially when he was able to negotiate a contract and sign it with the Lions

He has all the puiblic interest in the world, he makes it known to everyone, he didn't confirm or deny speaking with Botterill about a job, then took the Swiss job because he specifically stated he did not receive interest from any NHL teams.

My theory is that he discussed it with at least Botts, and they told him either take the assistant job or no thanks. No one is ready to go out on a limb. Or, after orgs took a strong look at his work, determined he's not ready for the NHL game.

The Oilers org had no interest, and Bob Murray, Jason Botterill and Pierre Dorian are already working on their 2nd coach, at the very least.

Jacques Martin is still a front-runner for the Sabres HC job???

This is so embarrassing. How long until Jack Eichel and Samson Reinhart tune the old geyser out? Training camp? Thanksgiving?

I'm talking about the 2020 1st. I think they'll see what they can do with it after July 1.

It's probably their most valuable trade piece outside of 7th overall

I will be on record saying that both remaining picks should be in play to ice a winner. If sufficient moves can be made without trading the picks, keep them. But a successful on-ice product should be mandatory for Botterill to keep his job

You rarely see teams trade out of the top 10 because the value is never enough.

I like Chayka but he's a prime example of (frank)ing this up. They got the "best" player in the deal at the time...for all of like 5 mins. Until Stepan became an anchor and the Rangers got a chance at picking a young cost controlled player with high upside. Idk that they should have gone with Andersson but still.

He was a shoe in to be a candidate despite not being top 5 deserving.

The writers who vote on that all criticized trading him so of course they’re making sure he looks good.

I hope he wins the cup/Conn Smythe and Selke personally. Would be must read material here

This is what I keep saying. There's 4 coachless teams right now, and not a one formally interviewed him. For being such a 'high profile' candidate, it sure seems odd not a single franchise was interested. Not only did he immediately take a job in Europe, he said as much about how there was no formal interest.

To speculate, I wonder if some teams wanted him as an assistant, and he didn't budge. NHL head coach or bust.

- TheSabresTaco

He said all the teams wanted prior NHL experience. Which is frankly ludicrous. Which is how you end up with Jacques Mother(frank)ing Martin as a front runner. Seriously, (frank) that guy.

It's not like Pittsburgh didn't just win 2 Cups with a guy with no NHL experience(2 years wrapped around the lost season are about as relevant as a guy with only International experience) He also lost 30 points from the year before the lost season to the year after.
