Looking at it the other way, a Provorov holdout would absolutely, not potentially, be devastating to the Flyers. I'm very excited about Sanheim & Myers too, but IMO starting next season without Provy in the lineup would hurt the Flyers a lot more than it would affect Provy.
Ultimately I don't think it really matters. I think a deal will get worked out

Really nobody wins. The player's rep is tarnished, the player holding out effects his teammates, fans, etc. Animosity between ownership, front office and player.... Its just not worth it for the few extra bucks...

I know its millions, but the difference between 40 million and 35 million really isn't going to affect their life....

Seeing how hard Provy has taken losses and how much work he puts in I just can't see him holding out and hurting his team over money to be honest. The gap between camps would have to be huge. At least you'd hope that's how he'd handle it.

Agreed, no way he's holding out. If anything I could see him telling his agent just get it done, even if he loses some $. He doesn't seem like the guy that wants a contract issue in the back of his mind.

Fully agree. As a side note, his lady goes to Nova so we have that in our favor

The difference between William Nylander and Ivan Provorov is, Provorov is a bigger priority for his team. Provorov is more important to his team. Nylander isn’t on a Marner or a Matthews level.

No. 2020 First and maybe a third, they are in a cap constraint, I'm not giving them much and if they don't like it move on.

You know what? Didn’t even look at it this way. Any team might be doing the Leafs a favor by strictly giving them picks and prospects so they don’t add anything to their cap. If this is the case, I’m all for a Nylander trade. I have zero interest in adding Patrick or any young player in a high salary deal.

Problem is they're gonna look to move Marleau to find cap room before ever considering moving their kids.

while I would not want to give up a blue chip, the leafs are going to want a top prospect who is still on his ELC for a few years. They can kick the can down the road a bit. Unless, it becomes a must move but I have to believe someone will trade for Nylander and pay well to do it.

doesn't he have a NMC, if so he would only go to a contender.

Patrick for Nylander straight up? I'll pay for Nolan's Uber to the airport.

My mistake, yes Marleau does have an NMC.

SN has an article about the Top 15. RFA.. Provorov is not among them yet Werenski (drafted 1 spot later) is included. Did the Flyers miss on that pick?

They still got a top-pair dman out of it, not sure how you could call it a miss.

Is Werenski likely better than Provorov at the end of the day? Yeah. It was a safe pick. Werenski was the home run swing. Just because he's working out for the Jackets doesn't mean it was a mistake to take Provorov (with Ghost and Sanheim already in hand).

Marleau packaged with Nylander would make it easier, a smaller return, but that's OK. They can sign everyone else at that point...

What is the likelihood that Provy gets an offer sheet?

Jury is still out on that imo, and I give the early edge to Provy. Werenski plays with Seth Jones and Provy is our Seth Jones (not saying he is as good). Werenski could not handle Provy's situation as the top dog.
