I would say that it would have been impossible if it were him with the Sabres in the conf finals, but now that he's with the Blues, he'll be transcendent. Will he be transcendent with the best of all time? No, probably not. But the Sabres fans will certainly bestow the title upon him.

I'd hardly call Tippett a "failed coach". He's had some amazing years and kept a Coyotes team competitive that had no business being.

Dare we compare him to McDermott who is continually living with a basement budget roster? Tippett is like Nolan, who gets the most out of his players, but is actually a good coach. He did good things with Dallas, and he did well with zilch in Arizona.

The trick is to not want Tippett to come here. All the negative energy will be channeled to his mind to convince him to sign with Buffalo. If of course the rumors are true that the Sabres are truly considering him.

I'm a little surprised that we never spoke with Gronborg, but the optics say he had preliminary talks with Botts and possibly Edmonton, Anaheim and Ottawa, and they must have not been interested in taking the gamble on him. It seems to me that Gronborg was all in on becoming an NHL head coach, not an assistant. If this is the case, it seems like a mistake to me. Breaking through as a European NHL head coach hasn't been done in almost 20 years.

But, he chose his path, and for the next two years, he's in Switzerland.

Tippett is a good coach, Botterill doesn't get this right we may see him gone soon. He never spoke, with McLellan and that may have been a bad move IMO.

Botts certainly isn't in any hurry and I tend to think that's the wrong strategy considering other teams are also looking/hiring. It seems to me it comes down a trio of Tippett, Martin and Keefe. I can't think of anyone else, maybe Marc Crawford if Ottawa fires him.
