If the Isles were somehow shutting it down around the net or something, I might buy that Trotz had something to do w/ the goalies. But they bled chances in close.

The narrative that Trotz came in turned them into this defensive juggernaut is lazy national broadcast fluff. It was all goaltending.

- Tomahawk

And here I was thinking that this (bold) is just as lazy. The other poster is correct; there are many factors. Many things that have to be successful in order to have team success, and many details that go into affecting each of those areas. Goalies don’t score a lot...coaches can both teach and motivate...a goalie facing the other teams offense alone will never win.

I wouldnt mind Boyle, I think he can play some 3C. I prefer they go after a 2C or a sniper, whatever is the better deal. I dont think they can do both due to the fact they need a D

Here is my argument against signing a second line center. Whether it be this radon or the next, if or when Patrick breaks out, one of Couturier or the over payment made to get this second line center all take a back seat to Patrick. At which point, everyone here will be pissed.

Brian Boyle all the way!

Laughton to me is a long term answer at 4C. I don’t want anything to do with Boyle

I was thinking I would like to see them sign Justin Williams to a 2 year deal. I doubt they would. But I like his vet presence and leadership. Plus he can still play.

I’m really hoping that the Stanley Cup Final features the Blues and Canes. Rod Brind’Amour, Justin Williams, Petr Mrazek, Brayden Schenn and Craig Berube. All former Flyers. With this said, Bruins is way better than Boston.

Boyle is better than Laughton. Laughton is inconsistent at center and often moved to wing.

I wouldn’t leave the Canes if I’m Williams. He’s a respected Captain who led his team to a final four.

If laughton moves up in the lineup it’s usually to wing. He can hold down a 4C role. He’ll be just fine there. Boyle is 34 and had one year in his career where he outproduced laughton this past year

That is why I said I doubt they would.

As many people in here (not you) fail to remember, it takes two people/teams/entities to make a deal. Williams would not be that expensive, the Canes have plenty of cap space, and as you said he is the Captain.

He is the guy that always jumps out at me as someone I would want on a short term deal that fits what the Flyers are looking for both in need and in moving forward......

I think it will get addressed in a big way this summer. Nothing about what fletcher has done so far suggests they’re willing to hope that Patrick takes the next step

I have been a major voice in trading Ghost and Voracek because they offer a lot of value, but also because I think with our leadership they are part of the problem of the team going through those 10 game slumps.

But now with the experience of the coaching staff I feel a bit more confident that they can provide the leadership needed, and both these guys should excel in AV's system.

You think playoff Bob is bad? Get a load of playoff Ben tonight
- Just5

Bob was pretty good this series. They didnt lose because he imploded, Rask and the Bruins were better.

Bishop is another weird one.

Anyone watching the Bruins vs Columbus game?
If so is that not the text book definition of a major?

The ridiculous play on JoPav is called a major and that hit wasnt?
Garbage league is garbage..

Apparently there is no major penalty in a 2018-2019 rule book for illegal check to the head- it's either 2 minutes or a match penalty.

IMO 99% coaches are about the same. You do get the occasional visionary like Bowman or Shero... but mostly they're a product of their player quality, and mostly at the mercy of their goaltending.

Trotz, Berube, etc haven't really made an appreciable difference to their teams. Isles are still bad in almost every defensive measure. The Blues shot-share and scoring chance balance have decreased under Chief. But the common thread is that they're getting astronomically good goaltending.

A full season of Hart is gonna make AV look great.

- Tomahawk

Are you saying that at least 29/31/ NHL head coaches are the same? Hardly.

Couldn't agree more. You want to stop hits to head but call that a minor penalty??
- bgratch

Rule book does not have a major penalty provision for illegal check to the head. Only minor or a match.

Food for thought... ghost 70 pts and below average defense
Sanheim or provy 50 points and good defense...
time to trade ghost

A+ organization.

It’s comical how Clarke and Holmgren still have say in the direction of this club.

Retread city.

Keep hanging on to those glory days because it’s been nothing but irrelevance lately.

Exactly right!! I mean look how well it turned out when we went outside of the box and hired a guy with NO NHL experience.

And Ghost and Provorov had career years with Murphy as the defense coach, yet at the beginning of this year, when they both sucked, it was all Murphy's fault.

My point is players at the NHL level can play and should be able to play for any coach. Sometimes it's their heads that get in the way.

Maybe not Williams, but someone with 2 years on their deal is a smart option. Two-way center who can slot in the 2C for now.

Another good night for Ratcliffe, 2 goals +3 and his team won 7 to 2. He has had a really terrific playoff performance.

He has good hands. His second goal was just picking up some trash but he puts it in so easy.

So what are these grand intangibles that Trotz brought that made all the difference?

And why did those intangibles fail so hard against Carolina?

Hang on. I’m gonna need an explanation on this. Fletcher has been here half a season.
