Gretzky, Roy, Housely immediately come to mind. Idk if you can can even name 3 great players who made decent coaches in the last 25 years.

Muller was a bust. Guy Carbonneau was.... okay, I guess?, Bob Gainey sucked, MacTavish was fine...

It's really hit or miss depending on where your threshold for "Great" players is.

True. I suppose Brindy could be one if he keeps the Canes going. Still far too early.

You see it all over the league. You’re seeing it firsthand. Coaching is having a bigger effect on teams as the playing field keeps evening out talent wise. This was the biggest part of the Flyers offseason. The new coaches

IMO 99% coaches are about the same. You do get the occasional visionary like Bowman or Shero... but mostly they're a product of their player quality, and mostly at the mercy of their goaltending.

Trotz, Berube, etc haven't really made an appreciable difference to their teams. Isles are still bad in almost every defensive measure. The Blues shot-share and scoring chance balance have decreased under Chief. But the common thread is that they're getting astronomically good goaltending.

A full season of Hart is gonna make AV look great.

Right now i really like these hires. After watching these playoffs i feel the flyers might not be as far away as i originally thought. The league is so close now.I think if the flyers got in and started to play like they did in January February they could make some noise.I also think though for that to happen they need a few more upgrades. The backup goalie will need to be a 1A type for sure, the 2nd centre needs to be addressed as well as a steady vet d man.

Totally disagree with your assessment.Blues looked like a totally different team under Berube. It wasn't just goaltending. So really not happy with Yeo hire

Hate the thought of Yeo as a head coach but I'm willing to give him a chance as an assistant. Knoblach didn't seem to bring much to the table so I don't think it's a loss by any means.

Couldn't agree more. You want to stop hits to head but call that a minor penalty??

The guy went off the ice with a head injury. Isn't it automatically a major with the injury? Even if they didn’t initially think it was a major. The guy is injured and left the ice. So I don’t get it

I'm really starting to think hits to the head should automatically go to the war room for review/penalization. The refs have no continuity whatsoever. At least in theory a hub making the calls should be more consistent.

Well, Rat hangs tough in the goal scoring area to finish off a scrappy play by his teammate.

Only thing I dont get about Lappy is how aggressive he was as a P-Killer, and how passive he is in coaching the PK, Early on figured it was the players he had to work with and felt better suited but after 4 years I would think adjustments would be made, Sure seems all the better PK teams are usually more aggressive. Would love to see a good PK specialist to better suit the bottom 6, although I get thats not high on the teams Christmas list.

The Flyers don’t have the skating skill to play an aggressive forecheck.

Because Lappy was a “skating skilled” player?
