Time will tell Rick. The player safety board is what concerns me. That hit on Anderson was the type of hit that this safety board has been trying to displine so that it would deter players from delivering hits to defenless players. The fact that McAvoy plays for Boston or that Jeremy Jacob's owns the team shouldn't have an influence on their decision. The safety board should issue a suspension based on previous incidents to be fair and consistent. But again you are right this is the NHL we are talking about. And if it's 1 game alot of fans and teams would be very upset with this discipline that has been issued out. Especially for hits that weren't delivered with intent to cause injury. McAvoy's hit was no different than Kadri's hit which he was given more than 1 game.
- BGKarras

McAvoy had no record, thus 1 game. Kadri by comparison is a thug with a long rap sheet. Plus he is stupid.

That's NHL justice, like it or not. And to support their ruling they can just show reruns of Doughty's hit on Carrier which was nearly identical and he got 1 game.

Agreed. So which prospect would you least like to see go?
- Bjm84

Really don't know. I would keep the top 4-5 that the team feels are the best which would include Joki, Boqvist, Beaudin, Mitchell (not guaranteed since technically he hasn't signed yet) and Krys/Gilbert/Carlsson/Hillman.

Question for the board:

Is Bowen Byram NHL ready?
If so, does Stan grab him?
Finally, if that’s the case which Hawks defensemen would you be most willing to move to fetch another asset that they need?

- Bjm84

The easy answer is "nobody knows". I would say no, since most d-men need a number of years of development to get to the show.

IF he is ready (i.e. a Dahlin type), then yes you take him and move one of the higher prospects for better forward help. The ONLY reason I say this is because we now have so may higher end D prospects that are all about the same age or spot in development.

I'm assuming you mean which defenseman would we move that does not have a NMC? Anyone outside of Murphy, Gus and Joki. I think those are all type of D-men you need on a team (and Joki showed quite a bit as a 19 yr old). Gus and Murphy are both on very friendly contracts.

Why would we bring in Hitchcock?

The last two teams he coached (Blues and Stars) are both better teams now that he’s no longer behind the bench.

He’s been let go after one year twice now in the last two years.

People need to stop clamoring for all these retreads that have haven’t accomplished anything since smart phones became a thing.

Colliton wasn’t even given a full season yet. I’m all for getting some sort of experience to pair with our young coach, but not with the intent of them having to look over their shoulder with the possibility of them being there to replace him.

Rod Brind’Amour - first year in the NHL
Jim Montgomery - first year in the NHL
Craig Berube - interim coach who only had 2 previous seasons coaching
Bruce Cassidy - second full season coaching the Bruins
Jared Bednar - third season coaching the Avs

Meanwhile Barry Trotz and John Tortorella, two of the most seasoned coaches in the league just saw their teams exit, and Peter DeBore’s team could be next.

The game is becoming faster and teams are adapting. An influx of new minds is what is needed to keep up with the league trends. Guys like McClellan, Vigneault, Ruff, Boudreau, etc. that continuously get hired because of their experience hardly ever work out.

I’m glad Stan went outside the box with the Colliton hire because I see the creativity that he brings to the table, and I’m confident he’ll be able to cater to the team’s current skill set. Give him a full offseason to implement some sort of plan and have the team become comfortable with it.

Let’s give it another year at the minimum before we start raising pitchforks.

You're over thinking this. How did Cozens suddenly become a lazy player who wants to "take a break from that sort of play"? I hope the Hawks don't read too much into one tournament no matter who they are looking at. We don't know if cozens was injured, had difficulties with the size of the ice surface, was on a bad team, or if he indeed isn't very good.
- paulr

Your points crossed my mind too. I still think i like Cozens at #3 but i bet both a couple of the dmen and Pods will turn out good. Turcotte and Caufield need to be in the next group after them. Possibly Krebs is a steal if he goes 12 or down.

Thanks! Thought it was up here and recently at that. They run two races, one Saturday and one Sunday. That was the Saturday race and my wife and I were at the one Sunday.

Interesting tidbits from an NBC Sports podcast interview of Mark Kelley, as it relates to the first two questions.

He said as of now, he does not see anyone NHL ready beyond Hughes/Kakko, but said it is a long time until September and someone could surprise.

Asked for a few words about each top 10 prospect, Kelley answered one question very differently . . . he went on much longer about Byram and seems to be quite high on him.

15 to 20 in the 1st round won't be ready for the NHL for probably 3 years or so. I'll be shocked if Bowman goes that route. I believe that the company direction for the summer will be to build for the next 2 years of high success. Ie....playoffs and deep. With ALL the Core growing older by the year, they will market and build this team to win now.

As a STH......that's exactly what I'm hoping for. CC on his last contract year and Kane still elite, gotta GO now !! Defense might continue with the same personnel but with more focus on system. Sign a FA top 6 forward, draft the best Center available to be your 3C, and build quality 4th line of checkers.

Anyone remember Wisconsin Gold Label or Red, White, and Blue beer from the late 60's ?? They were both terrible, but really cheap. Six pack for a buck back then. lol

Ah, to be that age again.
