well what does Islanders getting swept after we got swept by them mean for us? we really are a more pathetic team than I already thought.

Skating hard and sacrifice is worth every bit of skill anyway. And Curtis Mclhaney. However you spell it.

Horny is almost robotic in his actions. He’s never gonna carry it in unless he’s undefended. He thinks dump in before he even gets the puck.

He does ad strength to the in front/cycle game, but if he wins a puck it’s anyones guess as to what happens next. That’s what I hate about him on the PP.

- Thorny87

I don’t care for his puck retrieval skills on the PP either. Way too slow leaving the front of the net and as you said he’s lost if he does happen to get it. Most of his wrist shot goals also look really flukey to me lol

Media people besides, for whatever reason, Mackey hate Phil because he doesn’t like them. I’d take any reports of Kessel being a locker room cancer with a massive grain of salt. I buy that he can be uncooperative with the coaching staff, but that doesn’t mean his teammates hate him.
- Victoro311

I listened to Dejan and Yohe both say they know that Kessel never listening and shooting pucks around in the corner during practice pisses Sid off. However their personal relationship is fine.

Ya, thats a lot of players on the "Out" side, but a lot of those players were gonna leave anyways

The parts on the "In" side are all pretty decent (McCann, Bjug, Hallinder, Pettersson)

And ya, Jack Johnson is terrible, but EVERY TEAM has at least 5 million on their cap they can classify as "whoops"

We got 3.25 in Johnson and probably an overpay on Hornqvist, and Guds is making more than he is worth to us. Take it out of the extreme value we still have on Crosby

His other robotic nature is to shoot from anywhere within 30ft. Sometimes they go in.

The Pens made Tom Kuhnhackl look like a stud. So yes, we were really fvcking pathetic. Like I said earlier... Worst team to make the playoffs.
- madmike71

The Pens were lazy as poop. All theh had to do was forecheck hard (aka try) and they would have walked through both of these teams.

They didnt though... they tried to make cutesy individual plays and when they got in trouble they threw the puck away. Basically they didnt have enough soldiers.

That's why Kessel will likely get traded for a couple guys in the Kunitz/Dupuis mold. Guys that will battle every night and still have the skills to finish.

I really hate entertaining any trade idea for Kessel, but I’d hope it would be to bring back someone Subban.

I guess IDK if Subban also plays the left side at ES but that basically spells the end for Schultz, right?

I’m kinda wondering that maybe JR doesn’t want to bite the bullet and buy out JJ but maybe he’ll package him up and let another team do it. Or we’ll just be reading blogs all of the next few years about he’s dragging us down

I didn’t necessarily mean straight up although I’d be fine with that, Nashville may not be.

You’re kinda worried? I don’t even think he’s contemplating trying to move him, let alone buy him out.

People tend to forget that JJ was a healthy scratch game 1. Maybe they were looking for a reason to play him, but it does show that the coaching staff isn’t all that pleased with him.

There's a lot of assumptions we can make based on our own person views and the reality is, JJ's scratching may have had nothing to do with JJ's play.

1) They viewed the Pettersson/Gudbranson pairing as strong and didn't want to break them up.

2) Obviously Schultz, Dumo and Letang are not getting scratched.

3) This leaves Maatta or JJ as the potential odd-man-out.

Since Maatta was coming back from injury and the fact he has tenure with the Pens, he appeared to be given the benefit of the doubt. However, after a game where EVERY dman played like dogpoop, Maatta was scratched for the rest of the series in place of Johnson.

Johnson played incredibly terrible yet never came out of lineup, so my assumption is Maatta is the one likely to go, not Johnson. Yes, it's obviously possible they could do a major shakeup and multiple dmen could jetison, but it doesn't seem he first that comes to their mind.

A 1-for-1 trade makes sense if you want to trade Kessel. A guy like Subban helps the Top 4 which if you are going to have dumpster fires like Johnson on the bottom pairing, a great top 4 capable of logging big minutes is key.

I wonder if Rutherford can convince Nashville to take Hornqvist back.

One never really knows what team is going to do. In my personal opinion, a 1-for-1 trade seems fair, but looking at the balance of a move is hard to gauge.

1) Subban is two years younger and that's definitely a factor.

2) Their contracts end the same year.

3) Top pairing top-four RD are harder to come by than quality forwards.

4) Kessel is a far more dynamic player than anyone gives him credit for and while NSH has dynamic forwards in Johansen and Forseberg, outside of them they don't really have anyone like Kessel. He'd be a HUGE boost to their forward group.

5) They are deep enough defensively that they can buy whatever else they need.

6) NSH would be saving $2.2M in cap space to go shore up their defense.

So, IMO it's a trade that works for both sides if the Pens are able to make secondary moves to free up the space.

I'm sure others would presume NSH would want more.

I don't see how they trade Phil without replacing his production. Beyond Guentzal, there's not even a 50 point wing in the bunch.

You act like that would be the only move they'd make and if you can't see the impact of Subban then I'm not sure what to tell you.

The issue for me is the likeliness of it. Unless we overpay then Nashville is in no hurry to make the move, right? They don’t need to shed any money to add guys in free agency. If they want they can do it after the fact. They need to find someone to play the front of the net on their PP. Simmonds didn’t work, they tried Boyle. It would make sense that they would lowball us for Hornqvist this season (IF they miss out in FA) and potentially look to deal Subban next offseason when Josi is due his raise

Definitely didn’t use the word worried, I said wondering. I’m wondering, I’m kinda curious if that’s something that has crossed his mind. Some of us are talking about adding Subban but that means two guys have to go. Maatta seems almost automatic and if a RD comes in then Schultz makes sense

Realistically if they're considering a major retool I'm sure they're thinking of many scenarios, but at least from everything we've read in the media there's been no hints that he's unhappy with JJ.
