Or maybe he finally grew up and found it was time to take it all seriously.

Q was tasked with winning; he didn’t have time to develop players who maybe weren’t ready to be developed.

Not every player who didn’t work out here was because “Q didn’t” or “Q couldn’t” or “Q wouldn’t”....

- StLBravesFan

I think this is exactly what happened. Not a Q guy here, but I can't hang TT on him. That kid had less balls than Schmaltz when he was in Chicago. And that's hard to do and still be a guy.

I want to start seeing some of the Rangers drafted prospects stay in college and then decide to sign with some other team. It’s about time for this to happen.

Hjarlmarsson, Saad, Jokiharju... all rookie players that Q fell in love with from the onset and gave plenty of ice time and responsibility - because they earned it by their willingness to play the right way.

Q wasn’t perfect, but the narrative that he didn’t like young players just needs to stop.

- Chief4Feathers

stop...indeed...its complete 100% BULLpoop! Q didn't trade TT and probably did not want him traded.

TT was included in the bickel trade cuz they were in cap hell and they they probably were not going to be able to afford him when his ELC was done; in addition panerin had a huge 1st year and was going to be an rfa with TT after 2016. also remember 2016 was TT's 1st full year...and this board smashed him over and over for being soft...blah blah blah...now he is the one that got run out of town...BS

Interesting article on many levels when you consider where things are at today.

Rangers sign pair of Russian prospects Kravtsov and Shesterkin to ELCs. Doubling down for Podkolzin? Or could be nothing.

Canes play incredibly smart hockey. They defend their own zone well and get the puck OUT when in trouble. Offensively, they do a lot of dump and chase and forecheck like hell.
Just like the Capitals series, they are forcing a 200 ft game and it's frustrating the Islanders.

Well coached team Rod. Good luck against the Jackets. (HOPEFULLY)

I’d rather see Carolina and Boston, it brings back memories of the Hartford/Boston rivalry from back in the day.

Not everyone on this board. Some of us saw the vision, passing and IQ and thought he just needed time to adjust. A similar thing is happening with Sikura although he is older and not a 1st round draft pick like TT was. I'm not saying Sikura will turn out as good as TT is but the vision, passing and IQ are on display if his lack of goals doesn't blind you.

Terrible play by Bishop to spit the puck up and give a point blank shot to Schwartz to give the Blues their 1st goal and momentum. Stars still up 2-1 with about 13 minutes left in the 3rd.

That narrative has been hanging over his head his entire coaching career. There are plenty of other players who burned out because of his doghouse nonsense. I’m glad he’s gone.

Interesting how the winningest coaches in NHL history are so unpopular with fans as soon as they lose. Babcock ain't good anymore because the Leafs can't get past Round 1; Hitchcock is yesterday's man cause the Oilers don't win with a star like McDavid; Q ran every good young player in and out of his doghouse and ruined them.

Name me the players who burned out because of Q's "doghouse nonsense". Who are they - Jeremy Morin, David Rundblad, Jimmy Hayes, Anton Forsberg? Must be a few other greats too that went on to stardom elsewhere.

As long as CAR wins. Too bad CAR couldn't have kept the Whalers unis. They are still some of the best.

I get that NC wasn't recognized as a whaling state when that was a thing, but at least it's not landlocked, so it could apply.

You Hit the nail right on the head with that one Rick. The same crap probably will be said about John Tortorella eventually too.
I did like TT and wish they could’ve held onto him. Schmaltz on the other hand I was happy the day he was traded. I still think Bowman won that trade even this early on. I don’t think that kid will amount to much even though he just signed a big contract.
Even in today’s game where most of the shenanigans have been taken out I don’t see that kid competing on the forefront in any type of playoff hockey. Just watch some of the series that kid will put his tail between his legs and run and hide. Kind a like with Gus does.
It is just my opinion but if you look at the make up Bowman is trying to build here it is almost a copy of his daddy’s Detroit redwings.
Let’s hope he finds another Zetterberg or Datsyuk along the way.
As far as throwing Q under the bus, that just sounds like a what have you done for me lately. We will see what boy wonder can do here.
I personally am happy at the success that Craig Berube and Rod Brindamour are having ,Two former hard nosed Flyers that left it out on the ice every game. Hopefully Colleton will put a foot in some of his players asses come training camp.

I liked that he would shoot from just about anywhere and often surprised the goalie. Happened a few times with a goal being the result in the 2015 playoffs.

I like the comparison to Sikura. Like you said, I don't think he reaches that level but they are not that dissimilar.

Edit - also the narrative that Sikura is allergic to board battles, never wins any pucks, etc. is silly. While he could add a few lbs and weight room strength, I think some look at his height and weight and just assume he never wins any (board battles).

They wore them for a game earlier this season. Great to see the old whale tail again.

Saw that. The Whalers had some really good teams/players back in the 80's. Remember being at a game once vs them where Savard took the puck off the face-off and scored like 4 seconds into the period, which was some kind of record at the time...maybe just a Hawk one, can't remember, but was still pretty cool.

Totally agree with you about Mr. Skate Around the Perimeter Schmaltz. Happiest day of the season for me when he got sent to the desert. Just another college boy who doesn't compete when the stakes are raised. Graduated from David Runblad Charm School for Woosies.

And Stanbo better not pick another 142 lb forward again just because he has a 60616 zip code. He needs to find himself a Josh Anderson type or some guys like the Bruins can throw out on their 3rd and 4th lines.

A Josh Anderson type would be nice but I think they can find some 3rd or 4th liners in FA or later in the draft?

Wow, written back in 2016. Prophetic. I’d like to see some CAP discount on contracts given to players on the teams that drafted them. For instance, a contract past the ELC for a player you drafted, only 75% of it counts against your CAP. It would reward teams that draft well and develop their talent in-house.

Problem is - unless they take other action - that would increase the players’ share of HRR to above 50%.

The owners won’t go for that.

So they’d have to do something else - like increase the escrow amount that (in practice) has always been returned by the players.

The Union won’t go for that.

Speaking of Canes jerseys - what exactly is that supposed to be on the crest of their jersey? It looks like a weird "B" but I doubt that's what it's supposed to be. Is it like 2 flags on a flagpole? Help me out here.

Only Kakko or Hughes if Caufield has previously selected.
- DarthKane

Bowen Byram is leading the WHL playoff scoring race by a fair bit at this time. I am hoping he continues this trend through a Knock Your Socks Off Memorial Cup.

Along with Caufield's U18 performance, a lot of doubt would be placed on what has been generally predicted for the first 2 picks. The Hawks may be in a nice position to get a player we would not have predicted a couple of weeks ago.
