Nobody is going to offer sheet Marner. Price in dollars is way too high. Price in draft picks is ludicrous. Most important the kid needs to show he can lead a team in the playoffs and help them win at least a series. Lots of dancers can perform well for auditions but they choke when they get to opening night before a live audience. The playoffs are opening night and nothing Marner did indicates he should be the lead dancer.
I don't know what has happened in Toronto. They want to pay top dollar to a bum like Tavares. He has never won anything, nada, zilch. Winners win. Losers pad their personal statistics but fail to deliver at show time. A long time ago Boston traded Thornton for hockey sticks because they did not think he was a winner. Great scorer but could not win. History proved them right. Guys like Thornton, Spezza and Tavares have great individual skill but they do not have the heart of a winner and they disproportionately affect the outcome for the entire team.
Talk to me again about this once Marner has actually achieved something.
But, I love Marner as a player. One of the most entertaining skaters and playmakers in the league...but not at 4 first round picks. - spatso
By that logic then McDavid would not be worth 4 first rounders either, since he has won nothing and can't even get his team into the playoffs.

I think it's clear who's winning the cup now......Islanders won't. St Louis has a chance
Lol! Morgan Reilly is not way better than Ivan Provorov. He had a better year and is maybe better right now. He just had a career year and Provorov just had his worst year. That aside, no one with any sense would argue that Reilly, after 3 seasons, was better than Provorov is right now. Reilly was put right on the PP almost from day 1 and wasn’t given a hard workload for a couple of seasons. After 20 NHL games Provorov was the Flyers #1 D Playing over 20 min per game. Last year - his 2nd in the NHL - 15 of Provorov’s 17 goals were scored at 5v5 and he got very little PP time. By almost any measure, Provorov is ahead of Reilly at a similar point in his career. The idea that he’s “way better” is at best, debatable. - BOSS_TWEED
Right on the PP from day1? You’re talking just this year or you don’t have a clue?! You pick.

Toronto can't afford to hit the ceiling by signing Marner and (with that defense) expect to improve. They need to shed $'s elsewhere (Nylander) and improve the defense thru trades.

Or just suck it up for 1 more year and some more salaries will slide off.

The Leafs did not play him the PP but on the PK. Someone need to invest in a good streaming service.

Hardly, Alfredsson led the Sens to many playoff wins including a trip to the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Season before being traded Karlsson put on an incredible show as he dragged an under talented Sens squad to the Eastern Conference final losing in overtime in game 7 to the Pens. He was far and away the best performer of any player on the ice in every series he played in.
Tavares has done nada. All the years in Long Island and no playoff series win. - spatso
Wrong. He scored the game 7 OT winner for the Isles over the Caps in 2015.
How many series wins did either of them lead the Sens to over the Leafs?
How many Cups between Karlsson and Krusty? Perennial losers I guess.

The Flyers are interested on Mitch Marner and there has been a lot of talk about them offer sheeting him. The expectation is that Toronto would match of course, but the Flyers are apparently deadly serious about this... Could that lead to a trade? - Eklund
How could it possibly lead to a trade?
If the Flyers offer-sheet Marner, the Leafs have seven days to match or take the Flyers' compensation (let's just go ahead and assume 4 1st round picks).
If the Leafs match, they can't trade Marner for a year.
So to answer your question, no, that can't lead to a trade.

Thank you for using an analogy that makes it easy for me to understand.
Great. Now Leafs fans get to hear from fans of a poopty team that missed the playoffs tell us why their poopty players are worth Marner and X. And that Nylander sucks and can't be moved. We're fine over here thanks in TO. Cap is going to hurt this year, but thanks for pointing out the obvious. Go troll TB and WPG and COL for a couple days now...they have a bunch of guys that need to be signed too. Let's see what the Flyers have to get Connor or Laine or Point or Raantanen and why they are super human compared to what the Leafs have.

C'mon, Ek. Try a little harder. - Atomic Wedgie
Ek doesn't understand that the player still has to sign the offer sheet. Marner has no interest in playing for any other team than the Leafs. How many times does he have to say this? A million?
