An offer sheet requires that Marner agree to sign elsewhere. I don't think that happens unless somebody offers up crazy money for him....even then, he'd have to know that Toronto could not match so he'd be leaving. I think he likes Toronto and playing at home too much, and I can't imagine his linemate Tavares sayin" Chase the money - You can always come back in 6 or 7 years". More likely to see a 1 year deal at $10 million to let the team retire Marleau and deal Zaitsev's large contracts.Nylander is as good as gone at the draft for a pick and a prospect or defenceman....possibly on July 2, to make the money easier for his new team.

I don't think Nylander is going to be dealt as easily as you think.

Marner could very well decline an offer sheet but his agent is going to do everything he can to take the money while it's on the table.

Based on his age and pedigree and past seasons (not the last one) I think there are likely 3 or 4 teams who would have solid interest in Nylander, depending on the price.
Carolina, if they fail to go farther is going to see adding another gun and giving up a spare Dman and/or a pick+prospect as worth it and this would be the time to ask ownership to go closer to the cap.
LA, is hurting for a young flashy forward who could replace some of their aging guns. Moving a prospect and pick may make sense to them to keep the fans coming to games.
Calgary (believe it or not) is Nylander's birthplace. They are deep in young defensive prospects and have the grit to compliment Nylander's flash. They certainly weren't happy with Neal.
Vancouver has an elite triggerman and skater in Petersson, with memories of having a pair of Swedish gems leading them to the Cup finals a few years back, I'm sure they'd roll the die on Nylander for the right price.

If Toronto needs to move a big contract, it will be Nylander and they'll take a hit on losing Gardiner. Look at it this way - If the Leafs start next season without Nylander, the fans are going to think back to last Fall when Toronto was neck and neck for first overall. If they get something of value and save cap space, nobody other than a few hundred teenaged girls are going to cry.
But if they lose Marner, Dubas would likely have 3 months to show he won the move or his career would be done. The fans, on day 1, would likely be gathering pitchforks and torches (and that's not easy in Toronto). Don't see it happening.

The only winner in this trade is Ek for all the extra clicks he's gonna get for people telling him how stupid it is.
