Nyqvist?
- 2Real

Pass, 30 year old who's not going to push us over the top. No need to make a singing like that, a center is one thing but to go get a guy who is not a huge difference maker locked up for his early 30's would not be wise imo.

Hextall shouldn't have let Filppula walk. You could see it left a hole up front , , , although it did help the Fishsticks.
- fls13

Maybe not keep Flippula but it can't be overstated how much trading Schenn for picks and throwing a 19/20 yr old coming off a major core injury into the top 6 was kicking the can even further down the road.

Probably not, since Williams went on to win 3 himself.

The deal was made right before the lockout, when the entire paradigm shifted from buying/trading your way out of problems, to building from the draft.

I can't blame them for making it at the time, but it's a lesson of what not to do in the current climate.

- Tomahawk[/quote

Sounds reasonable. I agree the climate has changed. As for the Williams’ 3 cups- its a team success. Dan Carsillo also has a ring.
No guarantee they, Richards, Carter, Gagne, Kimo would have won them here

Superior talent to the Flyers. Both of them.
- PLindbergh31

Carolina's defense definitely is further along in their developmental path and the Isle's definitely had superior coaching than anything we have had in recent years.

AV hopefully will get our boys straightened out and next year will be a way different story than this year

One team beat the defending champs, the other team beat the team that won the cup back to back the prior two years. Total embarrassment to the Flyers.

As long as the intangibles vet is somebody who can produce (e.g. Jags, JWil) I'm totally on board. Flyers were one of the youngest teams in the league, and it showed on the ice at times.

What we all probably don't want to see is to have them bring on a Matt Martin or Adam McQuaid... full of intangibles but a liability on the ice.

There are several options for a vet to be brought onto the team that can still perform and would be able to fit on the roster. Obviously my wish would be Joe Pavelski, clearly you can see how a team feels about a guy like that, but no shot he will ever leave SJ, especially if they get to the cup or get a cup. Next, how bout a guy like Vanek, or to a lesser extent, Spezza or Brower? These guys are still chipping in 30 ish points, maybe infused with some youth can put up some numbers and not be a harbinger, give third line minutes, etc etc.

I think a line with JVR-Patrick-Vanek would look pretty good given third line minutes, and although Vanek is a bit old, his cap hit shouldnt break the bank, he's one season removed from 24 goals, including a huge late season run with 15 points in 19 games for Columbus (7 g's, 8 a's). Maybe being on a team with playoff hopes and a solid core is reinvigorated. And even with his cap hit of last year at 3 mil, on a one year deal, low risk, high reward, and you get your veteran guy. This is a quote from Jeff Blashill when he reached his 1,000 game earlier this year on Vanek:

“Vanny is one of the smartest players in the NHL and has been for a long time,” Blashill said. “He’s a great person. His kids have been around here the last couple of days, which is nice for him, to have family in town. I feel for him during the year when is family isn’t here, it’s hard on him. To have his kids around, and you see how well behaved and respectful they are, they come from a great, great family.

He continued...

“I’m just impressed with the level of player he is and the person he is. That combination is real impressive. I’ve talked lots about how he’s self accountable. He’s a guy who has strong belief in things but he is very self accountable and that’s a great combination to have.”

Sign me up....

Is Dale Weise or any other gristled veteran available in UFA? Does anyone know if Chris Vandevelde is in game shape?

They bring back Corburn and this place destroys the internet. Money lock.

I disagree. Very happy that they took Provorov.

Mrazek didn't carry them, he barely had a 90% sv%. Let up 19 goals in 6 games. so an .899 sv% and a 3.16 GAA, we're supposed to be freaking out over this? Yeah he won the series, but HE didn't win the series, not by a long shot.

I still like the pick.

I mean we could really look at 3 defenders in that draft that I feel are all real solid players.

Provorov at 7
Werenski at 8
and
Chabot at 18

Who says no?!

To Philly: McDavid, Draisaitl
To Edmonton: Giroux, Voracek, Ghost, Provorov, Morin, ten first round picks, the Kate Smith statue.
