intangibles are important. No doubt about it.
Never had any issue with the markov trade. Clarke messed up by moving him and singing hatfher and rathje. Markov was a legit top 4 dman. - daryl stanley
Supposedly Clarke didn't like Danny's fondness for Marlboros and vodka |

Is anyone thinking that Wayne Simmonds fits that "vet intangible" mold? I worry about his skating and overall play away from the net front. Will he (could he) be a valuable contributor on PK? 2nd PP unit as net front. Is he too much of a liability? Did he need this season to fully heal?
Interesting. - cdearth23
I think Simmonds is a player, even without scoring, you have to consider at the right price. He is a leader, a character guy, a guy who stands up for a teammate. He’s not so bad he absolutely doesn’t belong. Simmonds has a good start to the season but after goal 14, drafted off. |

What’s the max you’d go on a contract? That’s the real question I think. |

What would you say to 2 years 5 mil (2.5 AAV) or 3 years 6 mil (2 AAV)
Think both are fair, but im sure he will get more on the open market |

Anyone watch this kid Peyton Krebs? Button's latest draft has him going to us, write ups on the kid are great but how in the world was he over ppg and still -50? Kootenay that bad? |

There are several options for a vet to be brought onto the team that can still perform and would be able to fit on the roster. Obviously my wish would be Joe Pavelski, clearly you can see how a team feels about a guy like that, but no shot he will ever leave SJ, especially if they get to the cup or get a cup. Next, how bout a guy like Vanek, or to a lesser extent, Spezza or Brower? These guys are still chipping in 30 ish points, maybe infused with some youth can put up some numbers and not be a harbinger, give third line minutes, etc etc.
I think a line with JVR-Patrick-Vanek would look pretty good given third line minutes, and although Vanek is a bit old, his cap hit shouldnt break the bank, he's one season removed from 24 goals, including a huge late season run with 15 points in 19 games for Columbus (7 g's, 8 a's). Maybe being on a team with playoff hopes and a solid core is reinvigorated. And even with his cap hit of last year at 3 mil, on a one year deal, low risk, high reward, and you get your veteran guy. This is a quote from Jeff Blashill when he reached his 1,000 game earlier this year on Vanek:
“Vanny is one of the smartest players in the NHL and has been for a long time,” Blashill said. “He’s a great person. His kids have been around here the last couple of days, which is nice for him, to have family in town. I feel for him during the year when is family isn’t here, it’s hard on him. To have his kids around, and you see how well behaved and respectful they are, they come from a great, great family.
He continued...
“I’m just impressed with the level of player he is and the person he is. That combination is real impressive. I’ve talked lots about how he’s self accountable. He’s a guy who has strong belief in things but he is very self accountable and that’s a great combination to have.”
Sign me up.... - sjk540
Vanek is like Lecavalier... beautiful hands, but mobility is completely shot. He's a strictly stationary/off-puck attacker at this point, which is hard to justify on a team that needs more speed and puck-pressure.
Spezza is the same, but not as extreme.
And yeah, Pavelski is probably not leaving LA.
There's a lot of mid-tier guys who are younger that would be better fits. I'm kind of done with the All-Stars of the Past Decade approach. |

Prebs is inside the top-10 on most lists. Not sure the Flyers have a chance, but you never know. |

Not to mention, besides the PP the guy always had a tough fit within our roster. Especially the last few years. |

I know each team has their version but TSN had Krebs and Turcotte available to us, seems like we should get a decent player with #11. |

Peyton Krebs:
Peyton Krebs's Player Profile
Sam Conentino - SportsNetFeb. 13th: "He impresses enough with his play, but when looking for character he’s plus-plus. Think Ty Dellandrea."
Cam Robinson - Dobber ProspectsFeb. 6th: "The supremely skilled forward is elusive and shifty with the puck. Takes creative lines to dangerous areas of the ice. The type of player that sees plays develop before those around him and uses that to exploit the opposition. Owns terrific puck skills. "
Steve Kournianos - Sporting NewsJan. 31st: "Krebs is a sturdy, three-zone playmaker with leadership traits who plays a similar style to the Blackhawks' Jonathan Toews."
Bob McKenzie - TSNJan. 24 th: "Krebs, at 5-foot-11-1/4 and 180 pounds, is an energetic and industrious playmaking pivot who has a high hockey IQ. He has 16 goals and 37 assists for 53 points in 44 games, which reinforces his reputation as playmaker more than a scorer but some questions about size and offensive upside will be raised."
Hannah Stuart - theScoreJan. 9th: "Krebs is an exciting, tenacious, well-rounded player who could certainly be selected inside the top 10. He performs well under pressure, and his elite offensive production is largely due to his excellent vision."
Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - Dec. 12th: "Dealing with the pressures of being a franchise centrepiece, rumours surrounding that franchise moving, the challenges of being in his draft year, and now the additional responsibilities of being named captain."

Does he really have a spot?
I feel like the Flyers really want a 2nd line vet center. So if they get that your forwards are almost set unless they move someone out.
Giroux - Couturier - Konecny
van Reimsdyk - VET - Voracek
Lindblom - Patrick - ?
Raffl - Laughton - Hartman
I would like to maybe a leave a spot for maybe one of our young players to win be it Farabee or Frost or someone from Lehigh.
I just don't really see him being a need at this time. |

Did you watch him this season? He looked useless most of the time he was out there. Can't sign him for the player he was 2-3 years ago. I can only go off what I saw most recently, which was not good. |

Eh to a lot of these players. Dont want to give Nyquist money im sure he will get, same with Johansson. I am 100% in on Brock Nelson, and to a lesser extent, Andres Lee.
In terms of trading, Kadri isn't a bad target, however i want no part of Nylanders contract or attitude. dude disappeared almost the entire year after holding out, f him.
Wouldn't mind trying to revive Sam bennett but he isn't a vet who "commands" respect in the room, neither do any of these guys really, it's missing the point of what AV was saying in his comments. These guys are all ok trade targets but dont really fit this need. |

UFA's that interest me:
Forwards:
Brock Nelson
Mats Zuccarello
Anders Lee
Brett Conolly
Brandon Tanev
Defense:
Erik Karlsson
Alex Edler
I have interest for some reason or another and certain roles but like everything cost and term would be factors as well.
(I think one of Nelson or Lee get re signed in NYI) |

Nylander, with whatever question marks he comes with, has Claude Giroux-level skill. The contract is huge, but he's 22. He has a history of producing at a high-end 2nd-line level. This could be the one and only chance to get him out of TO.
As for checking the AV 'vet' box, better to do that on defense, where they're looking for a vet anyway. The 2C needs to be fast, hungry and effective. |
