The sad fact is Gardiner would represent an upgrade on our left side. Could happen.

Smith would be an upgrade on our left side. Smith, Greene, Butcher.. we don't need Gardiner. Idk why his name keeps getting mentioned. Stay away from him. We have enough offensive dmen. .we need guys that can actually play defense. The only offensive dman "available" that I'd consider is Karlsson, because he's world-class and not your typical offensive D that sucks on defense like Gardiner. Karlsson may not be shutdown, but his numbers MORE than makeup for that.

He's 6'4, 215lbs.. but also a lefty and we're good on lefties. Todd was saying that Smith could go on either side though.. but unless we move Severson or Vatanen, I don't really want Smith on the right side of a 3rd pairing. However..

He's already bigger and heavier then Johnny Gaudreau. He's 5 lbs. behind Nico (but a few inches shorter). He'll be OK.

The problem isn't with the individual player(s). It's only a concern because neither Hall, Palms, or Bratt are big guys. We are all speed and skill; which is OK but not ideal.

It could influence how much beef you want on the bottom 6. It would have been great to have a guy like Brendan Lemieux instead of John Quenneville but we screwed up that pick horribly.
