what was his excuse the previous 2 -3 weeks.
Great players find a way to make others better.
He had 1 assist as winger in the first two games.
Kadri gets suspended.
Nylander is moved....he has one good game 2pts.
Then disappears and floats...he may toss a hit and steal a puck away once in a blue moon. - Fakepartofme
The whole line sucked, how long do we keep making excuses for players ( all 3 of them ).
At least they had a good Corsi, there's always that. |

Trouba is an RFA for only one more year and all reports suggest he has no interest in playing in Canada, and the Jets definitely don’t need wingers, a 2nd line Center and some more D yes, wingers, no - Ross77
Great... So Kadri and Zaitsev? |

With the way people are going on...you'd think Nylander didn't have 1 less point than Marner. - AdamFrench
Marner faced tougher comp all series. Still, I don't blame Willy for losing the series.
Babcock could've tossed out 6 forwards like VGK did to tie it up. Could've rolled Moore Matthews Nylander and Hyman Tavares Marner for the 3rd period and at least unleashed a fully operational deathstar, but instead he rolled 4 lines like a friggin Excel macro. |

cool.
I dont expect a rookie dman to be on par points wise with a top 6 forward.
Marner lines, were up against one of the best lines in the league.
4pts from Johnsson in 7 games is actually pretty good. Not sure what you were expecting from him. |

Needs for next year:
Marleau continues his iron man streak on another team or is the 13th forward
Brown plays the 4th line
Kadri is prescribed lithium
Nylander RW
Kapanen LW
Bracco pushes for a spot
Gardiner gone
Get a d-man, L or R, doesnt matter
Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Johnsson-Matthews-Nylander
Kapanen-Kadri-Bracco
Moore-Goat-Brown
Marleau
Rielly-Hainsley
Muzz-Z

Positives:
Freddy is our guy, don't care about the softie. They happen.
Matthews is a beast, worth every penny.
Muzzin was a great pickup.
Zaitsev is no longer a complete liability. Not the best, but his performance was damn good against a great line.
Johnsson is a keeper, played hard and never gave up.
Moore needs to play with Matthews next year, our new Hyman.
Rielly is a legit #1 who is limiting his mistakes more and more every week.
Wait and sees:
Babcock outcoached himself very, very badly, but deserves another year to make the appropriate changes and adapt. If he doesn't, get rid of him.
Nylander didn't play bad, and was saddled with a horrible line, but needs to perform next year big time.
Dermott has a long way to go, but definitely deserves more development time. Just a bottom pair guy right now though.
Negatives:
Marner was great Games 1 + 3, and completely disappeared otherwise. Does he deserve big money? Absolutely. The new high for a winger? No chance.
Marleau is done, and it pains me to say that, but he's done. By far the worst player on the ice the entire series.
Brown is such an easy player to love, but no longer has a place on this team at the price he is costing.
Kapanen was my most disappointing player this series, absolutely zero impact and no drive compared to his linemates. Absolute trade bait. |

I agree.
But I dont expect much from Brown or a 40 year old marleau.
I'd be happy if neither were on the team next year. |

No they are not that dumb, trouba’s fiance Is a doctor in Florida and that’s also where he lives all off season. His fiancé can’t work in Canada. He will be traded to one of philly, NYR, fla, or his hometown Detroit. Is my best guess. - Ross77
Good info, hadnt heard that.

Leafs clearly have major issues. There is obviously big time problems in the room. Matthews was pretty invisible all series, wouldn’t be surprised if he tells management either he goes or Babcock goes. Marner had a couple good games then was a disappearing act. Nylander contract now looking like a giant overpayment. Kadri is dirty and incapable of playing within the rules. Needs to be some massive changes.
- iknowbest
Matthews has 5 goals. Only person who has more is Stone. Not exactly invisible...

this bothered me so much.. Down 3-1 with 7 minutes left and he sends the Gauthier line out on the ice.
It should have only been;
Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Johnsson-Matthews-Kap
If you want to reward Moore and Ennis for their play last night. Then play them with Matthews or Tavares..
In the last 10 minutes of the game, Marleau, Brown, Gauthier should not have stepped foot on the ice.

Marner faced much tougher comp.
Willie isnt the single reason the leafs lost, no. there's isnt a single reason the leafs lost.
But willie wasnt good pretty much the whole series......yes other players werent good the whole series as well. Brown, Kap wasnt that great. Marleau had decent games at times and than was horrible at others. Gardiner was....well gardiner.

I really wonder who will sign Gardiner and for how much.
And to be fair to the guy, he was obviously playing injured in that series. - Scabeh
I'm curious too. I'm hoping his back gets healthy and he can make 6 or 7 million on a different team.

did not love the coaching in the last 10-12 minutes. Boston was able to suck the intensity out of the leafs. As the coach, you need to find a way to get that back. Instead he went business as usual and pulled the freakin goalie with 3 mins left |
