i'm of that heritage - so I can what I'm now going to say without being concerned about snowflakes or political correctness.
I would suggest the using Germany as a reference point on how to handle "things related to immigration" MAY NOT be the best choice... they have had some issue historically with minorities... and those didn't end well.
perhaps find another reference point.

Soooo, Dubas blames himself for everything during his presser. If he feels that way then maybe he was not ready for the job or never will be. - LeafMan
\
its a good approach... he's correct 1/2 the time.
didn't get more defensive help last summer
made a choice on backup goalie that didn't really pan out very well; losing two servieable goalies to keep Sparks
chose to keep Gardiner last summer and again at the TDL
trades PK and centerman for a smallish scoring winger with upside - because Leafs didn't have enough of those guys
Nylander Saga
versus signed Tavares
signed Ennis
acquired Muzzin (but paid a pretty high price)
I'm thinking Doogie Howser Dubas has a few things to cleanup himself

IDK... maybe history... aren't we supposed to learn from it?
I wasn't saying the German people are "bad", not at all. I was trying to convey that using them as a reference point may not exactly be the best approach - because of peoples perceptions.
and there's the associated risk that the modern day german people may not like their own national history and react less than positively to questions regarding immigration and the like

I would not include Tavares only because I don't think the presence of Dubas was a mitigating factor. Whoever was the GM would have signed him. Dubas failed the year one test. |

Amen. Only that ship may have sailed. He had huge value early this season. They could have gotten a great return even just by trading away his rights. Everyone was high on him. Now, who would be dumb enough to give up anything of value for him? I guess they may be able to dump him for a pick or something. |

I don't think its fair to say "fail", he had some successes for sure... I think the Muzzin trade was great and he smartly made it early. I was against signing Ennis because I knew Babcock would of course immediately give him line 1 or line 2 ice time - which tried to do at the beginning of the season, not because I dislike the player (I don't).. but the Ennis signing was good. I think the Tavares signing credit has to go to Dubas, at the end of the day the player makes the decision, but if the pitch was poor or Dubas couldn't negotiate in good faith.. Tavares could have gone elsewhere.
There's a number of things he could have done better (in my opinion only), listed above, the biggest of course was caving to Nylander. |

apparently they tried to call the Leafs during Game 2, at the end of Game 2, during Game 3, during Game 4....
but couldn't get through - someone from Boston was on the line with the League offices the whole time...
they did get through after Game 6 to complain about the Leaf's slewfooting the Bruins, tired calling right after Coach's Corner |

The mess he has this summer was self inflicted. Everyone blames Lou for Marleau, but Dubas knew going in that he had that contract on his cap and he still caved to WN. He did make the Muzzin trade, but then failed to add more when this was a great chance with entry level deals. Oh wait, he couldn't because he decided to pay a RFA 21 year old 10 million, the kind of money guys with cups are making, or guys that are perennial all stars, or guys that are rookies of the year. To have success going forward he will now be relying on other teams to help him out by taking on a bad contract or making a bad trade. He is pinned in the corner now. To me he had made far more mistakes than successes. |

eff greedy willi 🤦♂️
he’s soft as slime 🤦♂️
dubass should’ve traded him and garbegener for some heavy wingers that can kill penalties and rise to the challenge of the playoffs instead of shrinking like a dead d!ck in winter under a sheet of snow and real defense MEN and backups who don’t want to milk injuries so they can play house🤦♂️
germans weren’t alone with the anti semitism and love for the third reich. they had a lot of help deporting Jews from the occupied and allied countries 🤦♂️
some even formed there own ss legions😱
and look! all of a sudden it’s cool to hate Israel and Jews again 🤦♂️
what a (frank)ing joke 🤦♂️
edit: nice alliteration 👌

and no one is surprised you would say this...
has it ever occured to you that you are completely wrong in your defense of "poor little Willy Nylander"?
put it simply for you...
A) if the GM Doogie Howser call me Kyle Doobie is pressed to make a choice between Marner and Nylander - which SHOULD he chose? - that's right takes about a micro-second to the come to the correct conclusion
B) 1) same GM could have traded poor little Willy while was he was holding out last year (True or False) part 2) and could have likely got a decent defenseman in return - albeit with perhaps worse hair
C) poor little Willy Nylander was a load of lazy dog dung his season?
D) little Mitch Marner did not have a dog poop season - in fact the opposite. Doobie needs to open the wallet to keep the much more important Marner.
E) Doobie has a CAP crunch coming - and to create space he needs to move spend to defense from forward? (true/false)
F) who's the easiest target to trade? Marleau has a NTC and is old. Nylander represents the best opportunity to address a need.
the end.

Marleau said he'll be changing his offseason preparation this year. And he'll try to move to a one-piece stick. Realizes he needs to be better.
Well now I’m not worried, a one piece stick is all the difference. |
