That's nice and all but I don't give a flying (frank) about watching anybody on the Hurricanes. The Capitals at least have world class players like Ovechkin. |

I understand your point and there is some truth. I can see the furor this can potentially lead to so I'm not so sure myself even more but I would love to see Babcock finish out his contract. It would be such a nice change from the previous history.
Ill take any bet that Babcock is around next season. Should the season be an utmost failure then I really dont know what happens next. 5-6 years out of 8 would be a reasonable tenure to expect results imo. - Blazed
It's going to be real tough for him to finish that contract because Dubas wasn't the guy that gave it to him and it's going to be dangerous territory if Shanahan has to fire Dubas just to keep Babcock.
It's also going to be real tough for them to be better next year than this year considering the pending cap crunch. |

Dubas outlasts Babcock. I don't see Shanny having to step in.
It is a funny situation. I really do believe Dubas has full autonomy, however, if he wants to fire Babs, there will be an awkward call to Shanny for sure. |

Babcock is much more competitive than Dubas and wants to win a SC.
Dubas was concentrating more on making Leafs a more 'equitable hiring environment' - that was his main goal for this season.
Plus he felt the job was already done last season with this:
Imagine any other GM in league doing that for an AHL win.
If Chayka would have such a celebration after an AHL championship win, there would be days of making fun of him and his franchise.
Lou must have been embarrased by the little kid.
This is not the message you want to send out your NHL team.
Leafs will definitely not win a SC with Keefe as a head coach (Keefe the "Brampton Boys" member, the same guy that was not willing to report to San Antonio after being scratched from Coyotes NHL roster early in pre-season - that guy) - he has got a very questionable character. Leafs should not want to be involved with Keefe.
That then links to Dubas and his questionable decisions.
In all honesty I doubt Dubas is capable of leading this franchise any further, let alone a SC.
Lou knew that.
Hunter knew that.
Babcock knows that.
Biggest question mark is Shanahan - why the hell would he want to be involved with a guy that is so questionable in all his decisions, and in particular picks out bad company to be surrounded with.
We'll have a discussion about this in 5 years or so - I now predict a lot of dirt will come up from the Dubas 'era' during the next few years. |

Pretty sure he's at least won a series and gone deep into the playoffs to buy himself some slack. Finals once, Conference Finals twice in the past 5 years.
And yes, the Lightning choked this year, maybe the biggest of all time but so did Washington two years ago when they finished 1st overall and followed it up with a Cup.
Babcock is living on a reputation at this point. He's got no real recent success.
That being said, there isn't a better replacement out there at the moment so the best course of action is probably to fire his assistants and see if that makes a big enough difference going forward. - JohnFergusonJr
The team going from dead last to two back to back 100 point seasons isn't recent success? |

Sure, but it's a process. Lots of examples of individuals and organizations who didn't have playoff success....until they did. People want to think it's all about Babcock right now, I think it's just a good young team taking its first few kicks at the can and losing a couple of very, very close playoff series. |

Of the top 10 dumbest posts on HB ever, I believe Max blessed us with 8 of them.
Tanner and Garf probably gave us the other 2. |

Still don't get the comment about big bodies that are on their way that will help. Don't know who that would be. |

I tend to agree, right now I dont see this season as anything other then a completely wasted season with no first round pick to boot.
Its not all doom in gloom like the Toronto media and trolls would like to believe however. |
