And when did Torey Krug start his career? - Leafsmart
Apples to oranges. Krug is a far better player with far more support for his game.
What people expect from Rosen, Gardiner has already been doing for many years. |

Rosen would have been destroyed as a rookie. - JohnFergusonJr
And? Gardiner is a tire fire. He was a guaranteed goal for Boston in game 7, and several others throughout the series. I really don't see how Rosen would have made it any worse. He would have made mistakes, but he would have gained experience. |

Hamilton would be a better fit then Ellis or Subban ( not even taking into account the salaries ) - Garnie
I'd take Ellis on the Leafs all day. |

That's false. Gardiner was hardly ever on the ice for goals against throughout the series. Only 4 the entire series, tied for the fewest against with Dermott.
Game 7 wasn't all on Gardiner, no matter how much people love to make him the scapegoat. One of the errors was a miscommunication that Matthews too part of the blame for in an interview today.
Throwing a guy with 8 games experience into a series against Boston would have been a disaster. If Gardner was at fault for 4 goals (he wasn't), Rosen would have given up at least twice as many. |

I honestly want Dubas to re-sign Ennis.. I liked his game against Boston.. Not the biggest guy, but he always battled and did a lot of good things for us this year. - PatC80
I've hated Anus all season long and wanted him off this team. But he played his ass off in the playoffs.
He still falls to the ice way too (frank)ing much, though. |

Blaming Gardiner has nothing to do with the argument. His giveaway was horrid but Andersen also let in a poop goal. Your probably losing a game seven if your tendy lets in a poop goal. I disagree though. Gardiner was apparently hurt. Even when healthy he sucks in the playoffs. He was a -3 in the most important game in 15 years. Rosen might well have been worse. But ultimately, Gardiner is leaving and provided jack squat. I would have rather had a player staying get that ice time in this particular case. |

Muzzin was the best d man on that club in the playoffs. He does score sometimes but his main attribute is being a good defensemen. And again, it's the balance. If a team already has an abundance of a certain style of player, it makes no sense to get more of the same. Hamilton would be a good fit on plenty of teams. He's just not what Toronto needs. - aminnes
Except he’s right handed and is good in both ends, we only have 2 d I have any faith in right now.

Andersen also didn't cover the puck. Dermott didn't get it out of the zone. Lots of guys made mistakes on those plays.
He actually didn't suck. Muzzin and Zaitsev were on the ice for a tremendous amount of goals against.
Putting a borderline NHL player in because he's got a contract for next year still does nothing for the big goal they had ahead of themselves; win the series. |

Reilly and Muffs are going to have to carry the load next season that's for sure.
Hoping there's a deal somewhere for right handed homer. Leafs have a lot of assets, so they should be able to. |

And Muzzin is a little overrated.
And a pending UFA.
So, yeah, there's serious work to be done.
Hainsey is gone too and as poop as he was half the time, he ate up a lot of minutes. |

Muzzin and Zeitsev played against Bergeron. line. Agree to disagree though. Gardiner playing less helped the team play better. It's addition by subtraction when the best defensive game they had was when he played very limited minutes. Agree to disagree on Gardiner I guess, as I would have rather had pretty much anyone in there. |

It's very likely this team takes a step back next year. Little cap space and massive holes on the blue line. |

Well that's who a shutdown pair is suppose to play against and if they aren't stopping them, they aren't doing what needs to be done. |

Not sure he’s overrated, I think for his speed he’s underrated. I like his game, he’s not perfect but our 2nd best by far.
I don’t think Hainsey’s back unless Babs signs a contract only allowing him on the 3rd pair

Leafs clearly have major issues. There is obviously big time problems in the room. Matthews was pretty invisible all series, wouldn’t be surprised if he tells management either he goes or Babcock goes. Marner had a couple good games then was a disappearing act. Nylander contract now looking like a giant overpayment. Kadri is dirty and incapable of playing within the rules. Needs to be some massive changes. - iknowbest

gardiner played substantially less minutes - I don't believe he saw one second of PK time... 4 goals against in the series, when averaged against his ice time versus that of other is NOT compelling - and he saw little if any time against the Bruins top lines. Point is - and really the only material point is that he isn't a reliable defenseman and he was injured or playing hurt at a minimum - not smart to have him there.
What if Rosen had played decently and only made a couple of mistakes? Gardiner was never going to recover mentally from last years Game 7 debacle - Leafs should have moved last summer. Poor judgement by management. |
