What about goals?
Because he has 18 goals in the regular season and is a point per game player in the playoffs so far.
The only defenseman with more goals than Hamilton over the past 3 seasons is Brent Burns. - BINGO!
Fancy stats are for losers. Watch the games FFS.

The Leafs don't need more offensmen. They need hard checking nasty defensive defensemen. They will get plenty of offence from guys already in the organization so why waste trading for that? Trade for need. Style points are why the Leafs can't win in the playoffs. Style points mean nothing. |

They didn't look dangerous offensively for a lot of the series. |

Hulking defensive defensemen are definitely the way the league is heading. |

They basically kept their same regular season pace. The only guy that tanked offensively was Gardiner. But again, they have prospects and guys on the club that can score form the back end. I wouldn't waste a trade chip on a guy that plays a similar game. |

Muzzin was the best d man on that club in the playoffs. He does score sometimes but his main attribute is being a good defensemen. And again, it's the balance. If a team already has an abundance of a certain style of player, it makes no sense to get more of the same. Hamilton would be a good fit on plenty of teams. He's just not what Toronto needs. |

The more Gardiner played, the more goals the Leafs let in. When he played 12 mins they allowed 1 goal. Then after the series Babcock says he was playing injured, or that he wasn't mobile. Well what was he playing more minutes for? He had a history of bad playoffs and he's leaving after the season so play him more? Makes no sense. - aminnes
So knowing Gardiner was not 100%, why did Rosen not slot in? And gain a bit of play-off experience at least. Whether Gardiner was hurt or not, it would never help the team. |

sarcasm aside, the Leafs issue is not that they lack Offensively capable d-men or d-men that can make an outlet pass... but as it the case with the forwards - do you need to add another Jake Gardiner... a defenseman who i) yes he can make excellent passes ii) yes - he "used" to be able to generate offense but really did do much this past season iii) he can't break up a cycle to save his life iv) turn the puck over like a motherf____
assuming Rosen is added to the d-corp next year - and Gardiner is subtracted... do you really need ANOTHER Gardiner - clearly they would be better off with another guy like Muzzin, preferably right handed |

I do find it interesting that those hulking defenseman do become seemingly more useful in the playoffs - I wonder why that is?
perhaps its because the "rule of the games" change magically when the playoffs start...
nah... couldn't be that. |

I liked the Muzzin trade. Don't care that some think we gave too much. Our three keeper D are Reilly, Muzzin and Dermott. As a by product of playing with Muzzin, perhaps Zaitsev's value has increased to the point we can move him. He's not strong enough to consistently knock people off the puck. |

Don't underestimate Dougie's defensive game. He and Slavin were extremely good down the stretch at shutting opponents down.
There's a reason the Canes were one of the 3 lowest teams in shots against per game, and it ain't because of Justin Faulk.
Still I do agree that he's not what I'd call a shutdown guy, but when he's really focused on it he's very solid. |

Carlo was a beast for Boston. Did all the little things. Hammered guys, got the puck out, and broke up the cycle game. He's big, mean and young. The Leafs own zero of these. |
