growing up my favorite player was Luc Robitaille and reading this, I can pretty much say the same about him - senstroll
On five separate occasions, Luc Robataille was deemed the best left winger of the season (1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993)
On an additional three occasions, he was deemed the second best left winger of the season (1987, 1992, 2001)
Mike Gartner? Nothing.
The only award listed in his biography on the HHOF page is:
OHA First All-Star Team
No NHL awards, ever.

I was listening to one of the talk shows after Kadri got tossed, and the general consensus amongst the talking heads (I think Friedman or McKenzie?!?!) was that some GMs would still want him, and some GMs may even want him more because of the "edge to his game."
His cap hit is fantastic for what he provides.
I just can't stand his stupidity.
You could get more than a bag of pucks for him. - Atomic Wedgie
There's no denying he has value to a team in need. We'll get something for him

Luc Robitaille is the leading goal scoring LW in the NHL.
I feel like this is different.
He was also funny as hell. - Scabeh

If Tanner Glass was played 20 minutes and just put more pucks on net, he'd score 50 too. |

Trading Kadri would be such a stupid, stupid move. He’s the only guy who plays with an edge. Leafs are already the softest team, without him they’d be easily pushed around. - Arctic_AARDVARK
According to the terrible blog of Ryan Wilson, Babcock still believes in grit and size. Clearly shown by his line up |

Carlo Colaicuovo went off on Babcock on Leafs Lunch, lol.
They probably won’t fire him but take away his assistants and bring in ones that will affect change in the systems, other than firing him, that’s the only other way to get the message through that he has to adapt to the way the game is played now. - LeafMan
What exactly is the way the game is played now ? Tired of so called experts not admitting that the corsi% , entry zone % etc is not as important as they make it out to be. Obviously you have to be able to skate and have pace to your game , but the "all talent" no physical argument is total crap. Who is winning in the playoffs ? Teams with 4th lines that are physical and teams that play hard on defense. Funny but look at the leafs and all the steps they made with their roster changes. They are a high skilled, very talented group . More so than last year. But when you blame the type of players they got rid of as the reason they lost last year it doesn't make sense. Last year if Andersen plays as well as he did this year they win.
They were closer to winning game 7 last year. Now lets look at the LESS talented players they let go. Bozak GOING TO THE SECOND ROUND, Komarov GOING TO THE SECOND ROUND, Martin GOING TO THE SECOND ROUND, Polak GOING TO THE SECOND ROUND. Why are these less talented players, playing on less talented teams advancing ? Maybe they do offer something you need in the playoffs. MAYBE your analytics and spread sheets don't make the difference in winning in the playoffs. |

if you adjust for era in goals scoring, maybe you can adjust for position depth in the League when voting for best LW and RW

I haven't read the blog, but let's keep in mind:
Babcock doesn't get to select his players.
It's not like he was sitting power forwards in favour of Willy Softlander. |

So the Leafs had those players and did not advance, but now they are on different teams and advanced...so now the Leafs need those players to advance

I'm sure he gets a little say. Clearly not enough by the words of Wilson who says that he didn't like the depth and still believes in grit and size.
That doesn't look like a roster that had grit and size or a roster that he liked.
Blog also says that Babcock doesn't shorten his bench but Tavares, Matthews, Marner played 9 shifts in the 3rd where as Moore, Gauthier played 3.

5 lefties and 1 righty probably isn't the recipe for success.
Carolina was rumoured to be looking for a centre but more of a top line center. |

The current roomer (and keep in mind this is Toronto, where as a member of the sports media you aren't doing your job if you aren't trying to sabotage the Leafs) is that there is a deep disconnect between Dubas and Babcock.
Dubas is strongly committed to the "new NHL" where size and toughness don't matter.
Babcock thinks he's a young, insolent P.O.S. who has no idea how to build a winner.
Take it with a grain of salt, but that's what some like to talk about here. |
