Tough call it wasnt intentional but he was defenseless and was bleeding out of his helmet. As a ref it probably looked bad on the ice they dont get a replay. Now d1 changed that if the refs aren't sure they actually go off the ice and watch replay and determine major or minor but it takes time and people hate delays

Welcome to the NHL Knights. They've been given enough breaks since they have been in the league. About time something went against them.

They didn't even call a penalty on the play though, which makes it really awkward to then come up with a major penalty somehow. It's not like they didn't see the crosscheck when it happened as it was off the faceoff and there was nothing else going on. If the call was only because of the injury...which seems like a strange way to enforce the rules...it really should have gone against whoever it was that pushed Pavelski down while he was off balance...that's what caused him to go down; not the light crosscheck shove off the faceoff.

At the end of the day, Vegas can't be letting up 4 goals in 5 minutes no matter what, so I'm not saying it's why the Sharks won. I'm just saying NHL officiating is probably the worst in sports because so much of it is purely subjective.

So in college if the refs miss a major the linesman can report it to the ref at the next whistle and the ref can decide whether or not to call it. Not sure if that's the case in pro

Edit this is the nhl rule
32.4 Reporting to Referee - The Linesmen shall give to the Referees his interpretation of any incident that may have taken place during the game.
The Linesmen may stop play and report when he witnessed to the Referee when:
(1) Too many men on the ice. Rule 74
(2) Articles are thrown on the ice from the players' bench or penalty bench. Rule 75
(3) When team personnel interfere with a game official. Rule 40
(4) When a player or goalkeeper who has lost or broken his stick receives one illegally. Rule 10
The Linesmen must report upon completion of play, and circumstances pertaining to:
(1) Major penalties. Rule 20
(2) Match penalties. Rule 21
(3) Misconduct penalties. Rule 22
(4) Game Misconduct penalties. Rule 23
(5) Abuse of Officials. Rule 40
(6) Physical Abuse of Officials. Rule 41
(7) Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Rule 75
(8) Double-minor penalty when it is apparent that an injury has resulted from a high-stick that has gone undetected by the Referees. Rule 60
Should a Linesmen witness a foul (above) committed by an attacking player or goalkeeper (undetected by the Referees) prior to the attacking team scoring a goal, the Linesmen shall report what he witnessed to the Referees, the goal shall be disallowed and the appropriate penalty assessed.

see college rules are almost identical to the nhl as that is the next level so its streamlined

OK, but it's not like this happened behind the play...it was the two centers taking the faceoff...there wasn't much else going on. I'm not sure they missed it unless the refs were looking at hot chicks in the front row...it's more likely they chose to let it go until they realized someone was hurt, and then they got the wrong guy anyway.

It's possible but sometimes the refs all huddle to try and make sure they get the right call, basically what did you see who had the best view was it a major or minor ect. Pick shot out from d zone is the most common as it can deflect ect. To be fair idt it was a major there may be replay coming for those cause if the refs saw that they may have changed their minds

Did they get the right call, though? If it's about the injury, it should be against the winger who pushed Pavelski to the ice while he was in a vulnerable position and nowhere near the puck. If it's about the initial crosscheck by Eakin leading to all that, then, let's face it, that's completely inconsistent with how they've called crosschecks in the playoffs.

It seems to me crosschecking is a penalty because it's a dangerous play. It's tough to let those dangerous plays happen from behind night after night, risking the possibility of injury, and then when an injury finally happens off a relatively light shove say, "Hey! That's dangerous!"

(you can have the last word and then I imagine our time's up on this topic before everyone else gets restless )

Actually Lou acquired Anderson when he was in TOR. The series was close because Matthews had some breakout games but Babcock is not coaching the 2008 SC Champ Red Wings. BOS just rose to the level they had to as a more experienced vet team. Maybe JT will be one of those great regular season players but in the playoffs, when they really turn up the skating, he's average out there. BOS is a well coached and better skating club when they had to be.

Starting out a response with "actually" is enough to make me stop reading. I never said Dubas acquired Anderson...….but he started the season with him.

The officiating has been a dumpster fire all year and it's continued in the PO's.

NHL needs to address this in the off season. there needs to be some consistency and its just not there, not only game to game but period to period.

I can't wait until they add more reviews and we can start to resemble the NFL, with an added extra hour of watching the same replay 40x while we wait 10 minutes for a decision

yea idk what to tell you these are the best refs out there and its so fast in the playoffs to me the answer is more former players reffing the games that played the game and better able to determine what would affect them when playing and apply it

I'm so tired of reviews, in any sport. Yes, sometimes they're absolutely necessary and fix an incorrect call/ruling/whatever...but straining my eyes and craning my neck to look at some blurry, pixelated shit-ass video to see if someone's skate came 1mm off the ice near the blueline is painfully annoying and a waste of everyone's time.

I won't even watch football anymore. 4 hours of sitting around for an hour of actual game play

I don't mind it but it should be 30 seconds and if you can't decide in 30 seconds the call stands

Yeah I'm on board with that 1000%

If it's so close that you need a micrometer and a forensic team to tell if the guy was offsides, just let the (frank)ing goal count.
