He's a good hockey player, but his next contract will be a mistake of Lucic-like proportions.

I love the guy for the game he played, but at 31 years old, his warranty has expired.

He will get very bad very quickly.

- Atomic Wedgie

This is 100% correct.

That being said, they need "the next one".

They need a 25 year old version of that type of player.

You do NOT want Simmonds. For (frank)s sake. He’s a terrible, terrible, terrible hockey player.
- RafiDRW

The thing is the LW on that line really doesn't have to do anything. Doesn't even touch the puck that often. Tavares doesn't pass and Marner only passes to Tavares.

Get to the front of the net and act like a Richard. That's it.

Ya they were great for half a season

Need ownership to call out our players?

- Fakepartofme

actually - yes.

I know for example that Nylander is a young player blah blah blah. But would it really "damage" him to hear Shanahan say something like "the investment isn't looking that good right now"... or "you know - he doesn't have a NMC"...

would that really hurt? would it be so bad?

5 goals in the last 4 games...

I'm not bashing him ....he's got another level to hit though.

See Mackinnon ...

Babcock on Jake Gardiner: He's not mobile, it's unfortunate, but he tried to give us what he could and tried to help us. You know, obviously any time you're playing a guy that's not 100 per cent, you think he's better than the guys that are available that are 100 per cent...

Another shot at Dubas.

last season loss was really frustrating and felt undeserved.
this series loss though felt like it was expected.
almost as if leafs took a step backwards this season.

- MaximusAurelius

The Leafs defense stepped backwards, the grit of Martin and Leo was let go and more smallish players were added. Speed is great but can be neutralized with good positional play and the ability to box out players to the outside. It's why Boston won, because they controlled the slot in their own end. Goals that the Leafs scored were mostly from the outside. Babcock could only play the cards that were dealt by Dubas. The defense was putrid.

We don’t really have good Corsi guys outside of our defensive 4th liners like Larsson & Girgensons

One of them plus little Nylander might be a reasonable deal for both sides
Our Nylander has gotten much better over the course of this season
We all think he’ll be in our top9 next year
Maybe even RW with Eichel & Skinner

The leafs are built for the regular season. Not the playoffs. Lots of passengers. Imagine, this team is no better than the 2013 team when it matters. All the skill in the world but afraid to take a hit. Not one forward prepared to take the penalty to protect a star. Why would you when management will cave regardless?
