Picking fourth and fifth are the Edmonton Oilers and the Canucks, both of whom would be very interested in Subban. Vancouver GM Jim Benning admitted as much on Thursday. His best offer would include Bo Horvat, Chris Tanev and the fifth overall selection. There is some debate about Benning’s willingness to include Horvat, but he may not be able to get this done without doing so.

So at bare minimum it was 5th overall + another asset like Tanev, MTL wanted Horvat too but I doubt Benning was going to include him, probably a different asset instead.

I seem to recall a Canuck defenseman getting 5 and a game plus multiple additional games suspension for 'Interference'. He had made a marginally late but otherwise clean bodycheck during a playoff game. The player he checked was admiring his pass and not at all expecting to get hit by his 'soft' opponents. The player who got hit bounced his head off the ice and was never the same again. So calling a major penalty for an otherwise innocuous infraction that resulted in an injury isn't without precedent.
