Having more forwards to help drive the play positively would certainly help. Skilled wingers that can help in breakouts and take some of the burden off our Dmen will benefit every facet of the team. Smart forwards who don't have those creative elements to their offensive game will naturally have a harder time picking up on and interfering with such plays.

Interesting note about Larsson's numbers and perhaps countering my above point: since coming to Edmonton, his giveaway numbers have skyrocketed.

2014-15: 26 in 64 games
2015-16: 20 in 82 games

2017-18: 41 in 63 games
2018-19: 62 in 82 games

It's wildly interesting trying to figure out exactly why. As far as forward skill to play with, the teams were similarly shallow and it's not like Jersey's D corps was so remarkable that he was sheltered. Further, Larsson hasn't been generating much more in the way of offense.

I've noted it before, but I remain firm that there's something consistently failing with our coaching staffs where they're missing something in breakouts. It's a fundamental lack of support.

Yeah we really need a “details” kind of guy that will have a staff of the same mentality.....people who will actually break things down and address areas that vastly need improvement.....Friedman on TV just said that Hunter has completed his second interview for the GM job.....certainly has to be one of the favourites at this point to land the job tho I’m still holding out hope for Verbeek

I just told them earlier today that their team isn’t elite but rather inconsistent through the years....truth hurts sometimes....at least I know what the Oilers really are and don’t live in some delusional dream world

Systems changes is the only plausible explanation IMO. Defenders that young don’t suddenly become defensively inept overnight.

None of them stand a chance. The only Canadian team to put up a real fight has been Vancouver in the Finals.

So far I’ve been wrong about the Jets and Lightning. Everyone else I’ve picked has either won their series or is leading it (with the exceptions of the Canes and Bruins).

Needless to say it has been a great year to root for the underdogs.

Wrong about the Jets, Lightning, Flames but I also have the Bruins and Preds winning their series....so I could be 3/8 by the time the 1st round is done

EK says it’s a done deal along with DJ Smith as the coach. But I would think the new gm would want to hire his own coach.

Not too sure.

His drafting outside the 1st round hasn’t been spectacular, but I’ve heard he’s a strong personality and so I’d like to think he’d take no poop from the old boys club.

Not the worst option I suppose.

It’s possible that Hunter said during interviews that’s who he wants to coach the team but I guess we will see what actually happens
