And yet he was still positive in goal share. I won't disagree that an upgrade is necessary, but it's important we note that it was Larsson's dip in play that was the biggest negative on our blueline.

I’m waiting to see how Larsson is next season....I’m hoping this was just a blip and not how things are going to be....I figure if I can be patient with Lucic till this past season I can give our Lord Larsson another chance

That would be a huge nail in the coffin if Larsson turned into the next russell or lucic

As much as I want to say otherwise, I have to agree. He was quite inconsistent and it was frustrating to watch him mismanage the puck at times.

I'm not worried yet. Dips happen naturally in careers and that was an uncharacteristically hefty drop. His on-ice shooting % dropped by almost 2% and his on-ice save % dropped by more than 2%. While shot and chance shares dipped little (~1.5% each), the rate of conversion increased dramatically for his opposition. His GF% and HDGF% dipped to 36.9% and 40.3% compared to his Oiler averages of 54.1% and 51.6%. I expect some serious bounceback.

He obviously can’t be too happy with how his season went....I expect him to put this season behind him and be back to his usual self come next season

Having more forwards to help drive the play positively would certainly help. Skilled wingers that can help in breakouts and take some of the burden off our Dmen will benefit every facet of the team. Smart forwards who don't have those creative elements to their offensive game will naturally have a harder time picking up on and interfering with such plays.

Interesting note about Larsson's numbers and perhaps countering my above point: since coming to Edmonton, his giveaway numbers have skyrocketed.

2014-15: 26 in 64 games
2015-16: 20 in 82 games
----------- Trade-----------
2016-17: 67 in 79 games
2017-18: 41 in 63 games
2018-19: 62 in 82 games

It's wildly interesting trying to figure out exactly why. As far as forward skill to play with, the teams were similarly shallow and it's not like Jersey's D corps was so remarkable that he was sheltered. Further, Larsson hasn't been generating much more in the way of offense.

I've noted it before, but I remain firm that there's something consistently failing with our coaching staffs where they're missing something in breakouts. It's a fundamental lack of support.

How many ahl players do we expect to make the big club next year? I think next year we should just keep the younger rfas with promise and try to shed whatever we can from the rest. Let some of the ahl kids play up and down as well if they are ready. Might take us two years to gain solid cap space. Try to move russel, sekera without giving up any sweetners.
