Paul Maurice should be done. He's never been able to establish a defensive system on any team he's coached and he's wasted the talent on this Winnipeg team. He's also failed to instill any kind of discipline.

It's funny how some people want us to believe defense is no longer important in the NHL but all the favorite teams are being beaten by defense.

Calgary had a good D all year. I think they let in the least shots per game against during the regular season. Then started giving up 50 shots a game in the playoffs

From about New Year's on the Jets were a .500 team or maybe even below that. And they blew first place in the division in the last 2 week's which meant having to play the Blues. They will show Maurice the door for those and reasons you mention.

And Chevy gave him Stastny last year and got him Hayes this year at the cost of 1st round picks. See ya around Mr. Maurice.

How does signing two players unproven in the NHL make two productive NHL player expendable? Why not add these guys to the forward mix and increase the depth?

Seems counterproductive to me.

EDIT: Looking at Wedin's numbers doesn't indicate to me a guy who going to be a viable option as a point producer in a top 6 role

- Gramps28

Hmmmm.......how much could Wedin help

It will be difficult to find anyone giving us a quality top four. Even then ....at what cost

Defense was suppose to be the Jets strong suit. Their D-men were lost the whole series.

Darth what do you think of Patric Nemeth? he will be a UFA and I think he is a potential top 4 guy he seems to be getting better each year.
- Sn1362

He’s been on my list, but for a bottom pairing d-man if the Hawks can’t acquire a top 4 defenseman. Nemeth could be an Oduya-type acquisition.

If Wedin signs with us, then logicly less likely would draft Russian Pod.
- jhawk59

If Wedin signs or does not sign the Hawks would logically draft Caufield.

My guess bruins/leafs and sharks/vegas go 7; the other end in 6

Stan will likely sign him too soon or too late if he's signed here at all as well as for too much money and term...and of course it will necessitate the drafting of Caulfield at 3.

I and wonthecup are both old school. But where we differ is he was all over getting Matthew Tkachuk and Manson all year long. Got sick of reading it. I wouldn't mind Manson as I don't think he's an entitled brat unlike the other one. Just starting the pushing and cheap poop in a scrum after the whistle doesn't make you a tough player. I want the guy who eventually straightens out a pos like Matthew Tkachuk.
- 6628

Still want Manson
Wanted the Hawks ( along with wiz and others) to TRADE UP and draft BRADY Tkachuk, never said anything about Matthew,

Thanks. The thought came to me while out having a beer watching DAL-NSH.

If Wedin does sign along with Kubalik.and the Hawks obtain a veteran forward NHLer via FA or trade there will be a glut of forwards on the roster.

This makes 15 and 20 expendable. Yes, losing one or both would mean relying on some unprovens like Sikura, Perlini. Kubalik, Wedin. ,but you have to give to get a useable piece

Question for the forum - Would a trading partner offer more in return for AA or Saad this summer and have them for 2 years or next summer and have them only 1 year???

- boilermaker100

I think Saad and Anisimov are in the same situation as Gustafsson but with just one more year each to spare in that the Hawks need to decide what their future is with the team before they lose them for nothing once they become UFAs.

So in that sense, the Hawks could gain more sooner than later as interested teams could just wait for the player they want to become free agents and sign them without losing assets in return.

Chiasson had a decent year but I wouldn’t sign him. He’d be on on a 1 year dead south of $1 million, but I wouldn’t want him to take away the playing time from any of the prospects. I’d rather be patient with Perlini and/or Sikura.
