this has really gone off the rails, we need NYR playoff hockey again - blueshirts_fan
If someone says every day that the thread has gone off the rails, has it really ever gone off the rails? |

I don't think it would/should happen but I don't think it's abjectly crazy as some may have suggested either. - eichiefs9
The rangers specifically have 11 million on the books in two years, just 11 million! In an age where the cap goes up every single year a few mill. With the RFAs coming maybe add 10 mill to it? They don’t have a Mitch Marner for example, so that’s not really alot spent there. Maybe it won’t be two guys this summer, or even one guy, but they sure as hell we’ll get at least one big ticket guy soon enough. Two is almost a forgone conclusion imo. I’m just doing it a year early perhaps. But to say they can’t afford two guys in the near future is flat out dumb. Seeing what a Duchesne did vs TB got me a lil erect, not gonna lie. I want the the mofo, he was dynamite. As was the whole team |

I mean that's probably a combined $20M in contracts. That's about 1/4 of what the entire cap figures to be next year. I think signing both would handcuff any team down the line. What if Kakko/Kravtsov/someone else turns out to be an absolute stud and you need to cough up big bucks when their ELC's expire? It's just committing a lot of money to two guys which means you might be forced into some real crappy decisions down the line. The cap won't always rise and you never really know how significantly it will, so it's risky to put a lot of faith in it doing so.
I have no doubt they will go after Panarin and may even be the favorite to land him, but I think adding Duchene also would be real tough. |

The tax thing is what could end up hurting the NYR, having to give more annual monies to whoever. At any rate, it probably a pipe dream but I’m excited about the next few months to see how it plays out for them |
