If a stud goalie is there in round 2, it would be foolish to pass
- PatShart

The Hawks have never had success drafting a goalie in the 2nd round. Pass.

I thought they might take Spencer Knight if the dropped to #13 before they struck oil.

https://www.draftsite.com...yer/spencer-knight/29974/

They HAVE to address it...they lost out on Peterson to Kings and frankly I ma not an expert but I don't like any of their future 'tenders group.

So that includes Laakinen? He was invited to tryout for Finland for World Cup. Just trying to get a handle on his ceiling.

One big reason is how often they choose a netminder in round two. Doesn't mean you won't find one in round two.

I wonder how Wiz projects goaltenders because it is not just ability but mental fortitude with players this position. Right?

Other: heard in the game tonight: Karlsson trips Karlsson. No Pat Foley was not behind the microphone. Some more of Marchaussault makes Talllon look bad as he puts one through between the wickets. This series will be a head scratcher if Jones (whom some mistrust but he is not bad in regular season) plays well and Sharks win. The Sharks have lots of scoring depth and old pro's like Pavelski and Thorton. They do not have Doug Wilson slapshot though. Just tuned in: wonder if Vlasic is "MIA" again.

Out here in Vegas, some NFL guys on the radio think the town will love the Raiders more than the Knights, simply because it's the NFL

They will not. This town LOVES hockey and the Knight players

Horsecrap name though for a team.
Horsecrap that the vaunted Vegas team defense and Fleury allow third period outburst. Holy cow.

Could Vegas casinos or just the gambling industry alter the hockey affection by pushing the football? Holy cow

Other: ex Cubs prospect, J Solar, knocks 4th HR but has 30 K in about 75 AB. Holy cow

I didn't notice before, but Powers already has another Mitchell article up in the Athletic.

From the article:
Mitchell said he plans on signing with the Blackhawks, and this isn't a situation where he'd wait out their rights an become an unrestricted free agent.

"That should definitely not be any sort of issue at all,' Mitchell said. "That's not what I'm trying to do. I just felt like coming back one more year at Denver to play a really key role, and I think we're going to have a really great team too. I really want to stress that I want to play for the Blackhawks, and by no way is this my intention to go through that free agency loophole."

Yes, I understand they are just words, but can we please stop with the nonsense about him leaving until he actually does something? I'm looking at you Darth!

If Mitchell's development isn't hindered, he is actually helping the team out. I think they probably are going to sign one free agent, promote Jokiharju and keep the RFAs for small raises. There is still a logjam there and they need another evaluation year to find the right players to keep. Got to keep Magic Gus at least until the deadline to maximize the return.

Keith - Jokiharju
(New Guy) - Murphy
Magic Gus - Seabrook
Dahlstrom

Forsling - Koekkoek
Beaudin - Boqvist
Krys - (AHL Vet)
Carlsson - Tuulola
Gilbert - Hillman

Ryczek also on an AHL contract maybe. This is still too many so maybe one or two of the AHL guys are moved or some go back to Juniors. Was the Gilbert callup a showcase?

Draft note: Would really like to get Jake Lee, D, Seattle. Think if he pans out he is a second pairing in the lineup - set it and forget it for several years.

Gilbert is the muscle guy on defense if Seabrook is bad and if Murphy is hurt. At trade deadline i could envision both Gus and Murphy dealt. Gilbert would be exempt from expansion draft? Who is Ryczek? Will look up Jake Lee.

Detroit morning news buzzing as there's a press conference this afternoon to announce Yzerman joining the Wings in likely the GM capacity.

Why's that? If the Hawks are in a playoff position, I don't think that happens.

If the Leafs, Sharks, or Hurricanes win the cup, their win total will equal Tampa's. If the Stars, Blues, or Vegas win the cup they will have less wins than Tampa.

Crazy...

Works for me. He might want to work on the Wings defense. It's worse than the Hawks.

For you Cole Caufield fans. Do they choose their own goal music? if so, maybe the kid is encouraged at how well a couple of his fellow undersizers are faring in Chicago.

Kid is a helluva goal scoring talent. Are we thinking he is an option at #3?

Agree with your thoughts on the top 7 with Forsling 1st call up in case of injury.

I say Koekkoek is resigned at minimum raise then traded this summer.
Boqvist another year in OHL. and the log jam in Rockford is eased.

Stan faces a tough decision on Gus. Someone should work out a flow chart.

Trade Gus this summer?

Yes - Obtain a useable piece or high draft pick. (who takes his place on the PP?)

No - Keep him on team.

Gus has another good year and Hawks in playoff contention?

Yes - Keep him for the playoff run then either risk losing him to free agency or sign to big contract.

No - Trade him to contender for a good return, let other team worry about his future. (opens spot the following year for Boqvist)

Seeing Winnipeg and Tampa this playoffs (the favorites by many to be in the finals ) makes me really appreciate what the Hawks have accomplished this decade.
This playoffs makes me think Hawks need to concentrate on speed and toughness. Of coarse a top 4 D would be nice too.

Anyone else think Mackinnon may be the best player in the league .

He was not good this regular season, worst of his career. 62 starts, .896, 2.94
