With the Islanders speed, solid goaltending, and system that’s consistently hard to play against - combine that with the clutching and grabbing of the playoffs. There’s really no telling how far they’ll go. The best teams don’t make mistakes and they know what they can get away with. That is not us |

This was the worst season we've had in a while. Just were never in it since Game 1... of the regular season. I was blaming it on injuries all season, but obviously it was something more. We're probably gonna see a lot of moves this offseason as a result of two straight seasons of underperformance, but something tells me this org is gonna take the wrong lessons away from this and and focus on the wrong things. Will be interesting to see how the last days of the Crosby/Malkin Era takes shape. - Victoro311
You're probably right Vic, we're saddled with some horrible contracts that are going to kill us moving forward

I was thinking about this...
Columbus with JJ.....never gets out of the 1st round. Columbus without JJ...sweeps the overwhelming favorite in the first round. JJ comes the Pens.....Pens get swept in the 1st round. - madmike71
Also... JJ leaves LA and they sweep the Canucks in 1st round en route to cup. |

Interesting. He was benched last year though. Probably was allowed into the room though. That’s all it takes with JJ |

It’s time to stop trading them away. Can’t get younger and add potential skill by trading them annually. This team is not close to contention the way it’s constructed. - pghbirdman
You can absolutely stay young while trading away your picks. You turn old players into young players like we just did with Bjugstad and McCann. Honestly, who knows what we get out of these guys moving forward. McCann could be the next Dupuis+ and pot 25/30. That third line should stay together. Rust can also audition for a spot. We all knew our D needs help but I would like to find Malkin another winger. I’ve always liked Eberle but I honestly thought he was going to continue fading |

I'll take Eichel and Ristolainen... and you also have to take Jack Johnson.. and (frank) it, you can have our 1st round pick. God knows we'll trade it before the draft anyway. |

Nothing is worse than the sweep in 2013. That team had the Cup in their hands pretty much and just got killed in that Conference Final. This year doesnt compare to that. I didnt see this team as a serious contender for the Cup. I figured no way we got through Washington and even if we did, no way we got through Tampa (LOL!). This hurts, but hopefully a wake up call to a select group of people who work in PPG Paints Arena.
Full credit to the Islanders. They played a series like a team, no selfishness, no arrogance, just solid 60 minute hockey games. Good for them, hope they give Washington/Carolina a good run and possibly keep going to the ECF & Cup.
Penguins have a lot of problems going into this offseason. First thing is first, make sure this GM & coach are who you want moving forward. Sully is a good coach and I stuck up for him a lot, but him refusing to change and his stubborness is why we ran Dan Bylsma out of town.
Second, lets have a good draft. We have a decent pick in a deep draft. Lets find a guy that can actually contribute sooner rather than later.
Third, find a way to dump at least one or two bad contracts. Best thing for the Penguins would be a Patrice Hornqvist retirement. His contract is pretty much unmovable for at least two years. Jack Johnson sucks. However, he did nothing he hasnt done before so I doubt Rutherford even looks at him as a problem.
Fourth, dont do anything stupid. I am not a fan of trading Keesel, Malkin, or Letang, but you know the rumors will start tomorrow. You arent going to get anything close to fair value for them. I still think this core has 3-4 good years left, but they cannot do it all anymore. They need surrounded with more guys than they have before. That's a big problem when you have $17M in dead cap money going to passengers. |

At least we're not the Lightning... jesus christ, first team to ever win the president's cup and then get swept. |
