Better yes, especially the last six weeks of the season, though I still don’t trust him. And Rittich overall outplayed him. Will be interesting to see who starts.

Does it really matter who had better stats for the entire season? The biggest discrepancy between the two was October. October has nothing to do with how they're playing now. No matter how you look at it, Smith has outplayed Rittich since the All-Star break.

Since the All-Star break, Rittich has the exact same .898 save percentage that everyone is blasting Smith for.

I'm not trying to say Smith is the favourite for the Conn Smythe, and the Flames can hop on his back and ride him to the Cup, but he is exactly what a team like the Flames need right now. He's been reliable and gives them a chance to win every night.

Goaltending isn't the Flames' strength but it's far from disastrous.
