And yet he put up Beagle like numbers on a championship type team. Maybe over paying for bottom of the roster guys isn't actually a way to build a championship quality team.
- 1970vintage

'like' is a questionable term

Beags last 5 seasons 41 goals 61 assists. Cup Champ.

Dowd last 5 seasons 17 goals 31 assists. 2 decent seasons out of his past 5.

If WAS gets a cup ring with Dowd I'll be impressed lol

I'll pass judgement on Beagle after he plays a full season here.

I don't dislike the Beags, it's Benning that disgusts me.

I just think that a decent hockey player could have a good season as a 4th line guy on a championship team, while the "best 4th liner in the league" can not drag a bottom 5 team to the playoffs.

This

Feels like we’re paying him for past production instead of future projected value.

As has been said many times, the term is the biggest problem with his contract.

Chris Wagner had 12 goals on the B's 4th line this year, we should trade Lind and a 3rd for him

I would also much rather wait until the team is good and use a 2nd round pick to acquire a 4lc instead of picking up one for free and maybe getting a 2nd round pick if it doesn't work out. Asset management 101. Everybody knows you wait till you need it the worst.

1 year was too many. I wouldn't pay $30 for pancakes no matter how many other people wanted them. I'd just go get a waffle.

The beagle signing was fine despite the fact we overpaid him. He adds some grit and is great in the locker room. Problem is we didn’t trade Sutter. Beagle should have been signed in order to flip Sutter for picks. And they didn’t. They (frank)ed up by waiting until the deadline and that’s been bennings biggest problem as GM. He needs some Sutter sized balls. He is slowly becoming Gillis at the end of his tenure 😡

No team gets good without role players, that thinking is unrealistic and will not produce.

Roll players grow on trees, it's not what a GM should worry about when there isn't enough talent on the roster.

Good teams replace good value role players with other good value role players.

The bad teams buy high on the ones they let go.

Exactly, good teams add good roll players when the team is ready to compete.

Higgins, Torres, Malholtra, Lapierre, etc. don't move the needle unless you have a core. Pens and Hawks did the same thing.
