I'll prepare the GritBoners chart if JJ plays tonight

If Dumo is a no go he will. Point is that if Dumo goes he probably won’t, and that news is great.

Pens didn’t tank for Sid because there was no NHL season the year before Sid was the draft.

It always makes me laugh when fans of other teams say that when there wasn't even a season.

Lottery can still work, should only only involve bottom 5 teams tho in the current system if the odds were moved more in favor of the bottom teams I think it would be better, how does Col(Ott) and LA end up out of top 3.

Pens didn't even win a game that year. Obvious tank job.

I think your math is off. How can 5 teams have a 25% chance?
- Feds91Stammer

I think he meant cumulatively.

Edit: last place would have 10 chances, 2-6 would have 5 chances, 7-11 would have 3 chances, and 12-16 would have 2 chances.

I think NYR actually had the best odds that draft, but I could be wrong.

If we had been fully healthy all season I’d agree with you but after we traded Oleksiak, Johnson has been close to our sixth best defenseman for large chunks of the season due to injuries. Riikola is worse. Trotman is an AHL call up. I think Ruhwedel is better but you’re picking between meh and bad at that point and of course the tie is going to go to the guy with #gritness snd pedigree

Agree with everything you said. Wanted to add one of the top things people who defend JJ say is he gives them someone who can clear the crease for the second PK unit, but Gudbranson can fill that role.

I'll agree also that I won't be nearly upset if he comes in as an injury replacement as I would be if Maatta or Pettersson are scratched for him.

Eh I'm not defending him at all. I think he blows, I was more so indicting the state of our blue line for the majority of the season. Johnson shouldn't be in the conversation for top 6 on any Cup contending team.

Also, Johnson screens his own goalie just as much if not more often than he clears the crease productively, and he can't clear the crease when he goes puck chasing behind the net, which has directly lead to a ton of goals this season, so that aspect of his game is a wash at very best.

I'm not defending him either, just pointing out the one thing I hear people say he does well isn't necessary. And at the same time agreeing I can't summon up much anger over not playing our depth defensemen over him. But we have 6 inarguably better options if everyone is healthy.

The issue with the no entry draft solution is that the NHLPA would never go for it. In the cap era ELCs allow for veterans to get paid more since young players are being paid below market value. The NHLPA is made up of current players. Why would a 25 year old on a bridge deal off his ELC vote in favor of this when he just got paid at ELC value for 3 years and is due for a big contract soon? If this were to happen this hypothetical player would take a big hit in his next contract so the team can throw money at 18 year olds. It's not a horrible idea in theory but I don't see it ever happening. You would have to have a generation of players willing to take a paycut to "fix" the system.

The Rangers, BJs, Sabres, and Pens all had three ping pong balls which were the most allowed.

So the Sabres lost out on Crosby and McDavid. Ouch.

Banking points... no draft... big joke. Honestly, Burkie is right on with this one. Can’t draft top 3 more than twice in a 3 year span and if you do you can’t do it again for like 3 years AND only the bottom 5 teams are lottery eligible. GMs can tank but players and coaches DO NOT tank. It’s a business and they all take their roles seriously

I think the current system is fine and the alternatives are worse The so-called "gold plan" is bad because it punishes truly bad teams that try hard. Eliminating the draft is insane as it would eventually lead to the collapse of entire franchises (who no one wants to play for) and would put too much power in the hands of young rookies, basically making them UFA's from the start.

The only amendment I would make to the current system is that I think some stipulations should be made on the top five lottery winners for the following year's draft. For example, the #1 drafter cannot draft before #10 the following year, the #2 drafter cannot draft before #8 the following year, the #3 drafter cannot draft before #7 the following year, etc.

That's why EJ had to be the GM and Coach before the Mario draft. Didn't he play a one legged goalie or something?

Edit... Scratch that... I guess we had Lou Angotti as the sacrificial coach before the Mario draft. I thought it was EJ.

It's about that time of the evening where I go kill time in the kitchen. What's everyone having tonight for pregame sustenance?

I'm having some chicken breast marinated in olive oil and Italian seasoning topped with canned, whole peeled tomatoes, capers, and parmesan cheese cooked by letting it simmer in the tomatoes' juices, white wine, and lemon juice. Usually I serve this with a side of my rice and beans, but I gave up all my common carbs for lent so I'm gonna make some good mashed, garlic-y cauliflower.

i will be having new york strips marinated in Italian dressing and spicy mustard and a splash of Worcestershire. Asparagus and mushrooms lightly sauteed in bacon grease topped with, interestingly enough, capers, shallots and lemon juice.

and a couple home brews to wash it down.

Next time you make a steak, order this stuff

It simple but it is the best seasoning Ive ever used. VooDoo Chef's Original Rub, Sweet with a hint of Pepper and just the right amount of Espresso! It'll give you an awesome crust on the outside if you pan sear your steaks in a cast iron skillet in some grass fed browned butter.
