I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’d rather have Johnson than maatta. And playoff letang just tries so damn hard that he (frank)s up

Maatta was bad tonight but if you think Johnson will be better than Maatta on any given night, I don’t know what to do for you.

I think Johnson would have been better than the performance Maatta had tonight.

It’s going to be hard for the Isles to match that intensity again, I like our chances Friday and a split is really all they need, not concerned

Again, Maatta was bad tonight, but betting that Johnson will be better than Maatta on any given night is dumb.

1 on 4. Stupid play

They did those kind of things all season. Somebody trying to do too much followed by a turnover during a line change. They largely fixed that until tonight. Hell of time for that sh!t to pop up again.

After tonight I’m willing to try. He was horrible. Worst case scenario, Olli gets some rest.

The biggest issue with that game was Sid’s line getting caved in. That can’t happen.

I personally thought Dumo had the worst game along Pens Dmen. He was dogshīt.

And it’s him. He has to be aware his linemates are changing. I love the guy but he’s a dog with a bone sometimes

Agreed about Sids line. The d pairing they were up against wasn’t good either. It was Pulock and Pelech hahah

He deserves to be in over maatta or Dumo... I'd give Dumo another look cause he just came back, but he and Maatta were pathetic tonight.
- stackthepads

I thought Dumoulin got a lot better, but his 1st period was a mess.

No the worst case scenario is we go down 0-2 because Johnson was out of position for the umpteenth time and Schultz can’t get out of his own zone so the second line gets caved.

Dumo coming back from injury and getting his bell rung 1st shift gives him a pass. He absolutely saved a goal at one point. I’m sure he’s not 100%

Lots of blame to go around but give the Isles credit, they came to play.

Johnson’s physical game is better and that’s where the pens lacked around the boards. Maatta came flying in to hit someone and just bounced right off the player.

Gudbrannsons slowness was also very evident tonight. It seems like the pens would be best pairing letang-dumo and Schultz-Pettersson and heavily sheltering the 3rd pairing.

I felt he got better as the game went on, especially later in the game. He made one massive D play during a 2 on 1. The whole D corp looked shell shocked and a step behind the first half of first period.

I hear you. There is no way they’re overlooking Maatta’s play tonight though. On a night when none of the D were great he was the worst IMO

I like Johnson over Maatta as well. Isles best chance is to muck up the flow of the game as much as possible. They'll continue to throw chaotic forecheck at the Pens and I think when playing at Nassau the pens need a simplified road game. Neither Olli or JJ are fleet of foot, but JJ is stronger on his stick and better suited to handle an intense, playoff forecheck.

The only downside is how they affect Shultz. I can't imagine JJ doing much worse than Olli did tonight though.

100%. And if the Pens think it’ll be different next game they’ll be down 2-0

Johnson lives in his own zone specifically because he can’t handle forechecks. This is blatantly false.

Geno line had a couple of solid chances. I'm sure the 1st will pick up their play. Need to get off to better starts. Murray is too jumpy early on and the rest of the team needs to start playing wide open game
