No one was complaining when they just flipped the standings and drafted like that. It's simple and makes the most sense. You only run into ridiculous outcomes like the last few years when you try to fix something that wasn't broken to begin with.
Fans cheering for the teams to lose is at least them cheering for something. What happens when you're a fan of a bad team, who's not losing on purpose, who has no shot at decent pick? They'll drive fans away from the game. |

Yeah people need to get off their damn high horses when they tell fans it's not "classy" to tank, or bad for the sport to cheer for your team to lose. |

To be perfectly honest I haven't followed you guys at all this season so I wouldn't know how bad Hank has tapered off. - Victoro311

My only qualm with the Golden thing or whatever it's called is it would make an already dull trade deadline even worse. Since bottom feeder teams are still trying to bank points, they're not gonna trade their rentals. Maybe make the trade deadline earlier??? Idk. Just something to think about. |

Yeah that came to mind the other day when Feds and Vic were talking about the Gold Draft plan. |

All this will mean is teams will tank hard from day 1 of the season and then buy near the deadline. Keep it the same - Just5
Unlikely and I see no issue with this anyways. |

Still have to weigh the risks of losing rentals for nothing. |

Don't replace it but limit how many spots a team can rise or fall (maybe 5???)

Off topic but I find it so sad that Stephen Hawking wasn't alive to see the EHT Black Hole...the man almost single-handedly wrote the book (so to speak) on black hole theory. |

Fair idea. Or limit the top 3 lotto to the bottom 8 teams only. |

well since this is the first time in team history of picking higher than 4 you can see why right? - blueshirts_fan
It's not the first time in team history of picking higher than fourth. |

People get way too caught up in preventing tanking. There's no reason to. Tanking is fine, and stacks the talent on playoff teams at the deadline for A) a more fun deadline with more player movement and B) a more fun playoff with stronger, deeper teams and more premier talent. It's impossible to have a league where 30+ teams are contention year in and year out. Don't let perfection be the enemy of the good. - Victoro311
Yeah... I really don't have much of a problem with it. |

Ok i just read the SN article Wilson linked in his article; 2 things stood out.
For the trade deadline issue I really think that making the trade deadline earlier along with the Gold Plan might help. Forcing teams to make roster decisions before they know *just* how good or bad they are would allow the trade deadline to remain relevant.
There was also one point where DGB didn't have a great response to. "Point: Teams would only have a few games to rack up points, meaning factors like schedule strength and injuries would introduce an element of randomness."
If a team faces bad teams down the stretch vs. another team facing good teams, it doesn't matter imo. If the teams' records are similar that means the team who gets to play bad teams down the stretch was able to do just as well as the other team that was playing the easier schedule earlier in the season. So, what goes around comes around. Also, with the Gold Plan every team is playing to win, so there won't be any *easy* wins anyway. |

It really shouldn't be all 15 teams...top 6-8 at most should be in lottery. If they do all 15 teams then most you can move is 3 spots.
Can I be commish??? |

Eh this is one of the things Yohe is still good for. He has a good pulse on management and the locker room. If he’s saying it there’s a good chance. |

This gold plan has just as many flaws as the current system, many of which have been mentioned. And declaring yourself out of the playoffs gets a little confusing when you turn around and qualify. Imagine the Blues in January saying they are out. Then they go on a crazy run and have a pretty legit shot at the Cup here. So do they just get removed from the standings? Pretty dumb.
Nothing is perfect. One minor change I'd make is to limit the amount of places you can move up. So Chicago wins. Great. You move up a max of 4 spots. So only the bottom 5 teams have a shot at #1. Only the bottom 6 teams have a shot at #2. Etc...You want crappy teams like Ottawa, LA to improve through a high pick and instead we've seen pretty competitive teams like Chicago or Philly moving up 10 spots. |

Hey, if Johnson was paired with Letang again yesterday, I would be very willing to believe this. But he was back with Schultz... so it makes little sense since nothing changed with today's practice.
I want it to be true of course, but that coming out today is odd timing to me. |

The rangers had good karma I believe. They played balls to the wall every game and it paid off. We were kinda pissed about winning so much. But you can’t tell a group of kids (rangers for the most part) to lose on purpose, it’s just wrong to approach the future that way. - Slimtj100
Amen!!! Sour grapes by the author..poor baby..has malkin, crosby, letang and others as they tanked. unreal. really pisses me off |
