Oh boy.....you don't get it. Not a direct thank you from you, but all of you who say Bettman doesn't hate the Blackhawks. If I wasn't on to him, they never would have moved up that much. |

Ahhhhh I'm slow on the uptake, you'll have to excuse me but you have to understand I'm Canadian and I'm not very smart. So because you exposed Bettman's bias against the Blackhawks he had no alternative but to give the Hawks the 3rd overall just so you'd leave him alone. That's brilliant PE! You're one step ahead of everyone. |

Yeah I'd like to see the Hawks trade the 3rd pick to Columbus for the rights to Panarin. Then sign Panarin to a max deal. That will solve all our problems ! (Complete Sarcasm for da meatheads ) |

Would be nice to trade off Saad and AA this summer. Some spitballing and rehash from one of my earlier posts.
AA for a pick or prospect.
Saad + to Carolina for example for a Pesce or DeHaan.
A prospect or pick to Vegas for Eakin who would replace AA for the 19/20 season. Flip him at the TDL, or let him walk in 20/21 to be replaced by Entwhistle.
Maybe sign Tanev for 3M to take Saad's roster spot.
Hawks pick up a top 4D, a couple of forwards (one basically a rental) and some cap space going forward in 20/21 to help sign Cat, Strome and Kahun.

Well, I have also said that he cannot always dictate against Chicago, because it would show his bias. He has to pick his battles (just like raising kids, sometimes you have to let them win at times). So you see, just because they got the #3 pick does not change my thought.
Also, did I ever say Canadians are not smart? I know you don't like me, but do not spread false statements against me. |

I think I take Cozens at three unless one of the top two somehow fall to us. Down the middle you would have Toews, Strome, Cozens and Kampf. Not bad at all. Somehow deal AA. I don't see anyone taking on Seabs...plus Seabs would have to approve any trade. I just don't see that happening. Put him on a third pairing with Murphy and keep their minutes low per game. It might benefit him. If you can trade AA (and lets say for sake of arguement we have to eat 2.0 million in salary) you would have about 18 million in cap space for this upcoming free agency. Than can get you two solid players. |

I don't dislike anyone and it was me who said Canadians aren't smart. So I think I'm beginning to catch on. Let me know if I got this right, Bettman allowed the Hawks to move up in the lottery to get Patrick Kane, win three cups, move up in the lottery again this year and he gave the team more outdoor games than any other teams to make up for the half dozen missed tripping calls on the last game of the season. Way to keep Bettman honest PE!!! |

Tallon says no
Tallon says i need cap space instead for Bobrowski, Panarin or whomever
I don't know how it all works out with current players say Luongo if Bobrowski signs (Columbus goaltender) - jhawk59
Heard Luongo doesn't want to retire (and lose all that money), but that LTIR is a possibility, and that the league would not dispute it as to how long he has been in the league as a goalie and all the injuries he ahs sustained.
Also, he is a fixture in the South Florida community and has been actively involved in charity work especially involving the Parkland massacre. |

So Stan has more cap space this season than he's ever had ... but how much does he really have to spend this summer and still have enough to re-sign Cat/Strome/Kahun next summer? I listed the cap hits of the players likely to be on the roster in 2020/21, with some guestimations: Cat/Strome combined $14M, Kahun $3M and small raises for several other players. I also factored in a UFA d-man acquisition (Chiarot) and guessed Crawford would be re-signed for $4M. Here's what I get:
2020/21:
1. Toews 10.5
2. Kane 10.5 / 21.0
3. DeBrincat 8.0 / 29.0
4. Strome 6.0 / 35.0
5. Saad 6.0 / 41.0
6. Anisimov 4.5 / 45.5
7. Kahun 3.0 / 48.5
8. Caggiula 2.0 / 50.5
9. Sikura 1.5 / 52.0
10. Kubalik 1.0 / 53.0
11. Kampf 1.5 / 54.5
12. Perlini 1.5 / 56.0
13. Turcotte 1.0 / 57.0
1. Murphy 4.0 / 61.0
2. Keith 5.5 / 66.5
3. Seabrook 7.0 / 73.5
4. Koekkoek 1.5 / 75.0
5. Chariot 3.5 / 78.5
6. Boqvist 1.0 / 79.5
7. Jokiharju 1.0 / 80.5
1. Crawford 4.0 / 84.5
2. Delia 1.0 / 85.5
That is either right at or over the probable 2020/21 cap ceiling and the only outside additions to the team are Chiarot, the #3 pick (Turcotte ?) and Boqvist.
In other words Stan doesn't have much cap space to spend this summer if he plans on re-signing Cat/Strome/Kahun next summer. Am I missing something here? - EbonyRaptor
Thanks for the Math.
Cat, Strome, and Kahun are RFA's and not UFA's next summer so that restricts their bargaining power. Very few RFA's sign offer sheets. If they sign an offer sheet for more than $4 mil the Hawks get a 1st and a 3rd. If they sign an offer sheet for the more than $6 mil the Hawks get a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Teams may be reluctant to pay a big salary and give up draft picks. So maybe the Hawks will sign Cat and Strome for a little less than you have listed.
If Crow is healthy and stellar next year I doubt he takes a pay cut when he becomes a UFA.

I just don't see anyway the Hawks bring him (Crawford) back once his contract expires. It opens up cap space to sign the young guys. Plus, his history of injury too. I think they go with Delia and someone else at a lower cost.

Why?
I'm all for signing Tanev but he's not a replacement for Saad. The team needs Saad and Tanev. I was all for trading Anisimov, but I'm not so sure it happens this summer. Maybe next summer but the unless there is a plan to significantly upgrade AA there's not need to get rid of him. Even if the Hawks draft Cozens (fingers crossed) he can still centre the 3rd line (assuming he makes the team) with Saad and AA on his wings.
If the Hawks draft Podkolzin I'm sure they'll want AA around to get him acclimated.

Maybe on a Cam Ward sort of deal $3 mil. for a year.

Draft the Russian (assuming the other 2 are drafted), sign Panarin, trade 1 of the up and coming kid Dmen for a more established top pairing Dman to a team in cap trouble and I think you got yourselves something special.
It probably means cap hell again but that's for the accountants to figure out.

Well Ebony Raptor's post on page 15 with a proposed 20-21 lineup got me thinking about this. Hawks will need some cap space to sign Strome, Cat and Kahun beginning with the 20-21 season and Saad is a tradeable asset without a NTC.
My thinking is that if the Hawks wait until next year to trade AA and Saad, they would have only a year left on their contracts and teams won't offer as much as this summer. Maybe I'm wrong about that. Other teams could have AA and Saad for 2 years instead of one. Saad + could bring back a young cost controlled D man.
Prying away Eakin from Vegas would replace AA. Maybe both Kabulik pans out as a top 9 forward and Kahun increases his scoring to make up for Saad's lost offensive output.
Lots of maybes and other dominoes to fall, but that was my train of thought. |
