I would've guessed it is typically related to his wallet.

[quote=chuckdahammer]I'm sold on Turcotte. check out this scouting report. With a high end motor that does not quit ..... what would playing for your hometown team do to that motor ?

and you should be all in on him!

Like I said, the Hawks are gonna like someone and it might surprise us all.

- wiz1901

Maybe the first two choices will be the two we want, meaning Hughes still there. Pass. Then Stan could either take Cousins or trade down 2-3 picks. I surmise the board would want Dach or Turcotte in that case. This makes too much sense to happen. Or Wiz has a deeper insight.

The Seabrook issue is dealt with when the time comes. Rather maybe loose someone THEN who is not as valuable as this #3 pick!

A couple of things. You aren't getting ++ with Trouba. Its an awful lot to ask for an 18 year old to come over to a new country and make an impact. Language barrier. Different ice surface are a couple of huge issue he will have to adjust to. Add in his numbers in both the KHL and MHL are less than impressive. He most likely isn't ready for the NHL at this point.
- Elbows15

If I m not getting +++ with Truboa then no keep the pick unless a team comes to the hawks with an offer that blows them out the water then no that is my point

So Stan has more cap space this season than he's ever had ... but how much does he really have to spend this summer and still have enough to re-sign Cat/Strome/Kahun next summer? I listed the cap hits of the players likely to be on the roster in 2020/21, with some guestimations: Cat/Strome combined $14M, Kahun $3M and small raises for several other players. I also factored in a UFA d-man acquisition (Chiarot) and guessed Crawford would be re-signed for $4M. Here's what I get:

2020/21:

1. Toews 10.5
2. Kane 10.5 / 21.0
3. DeBrincat 8.0 / 29.0
4. Strome 6.0 / 35.0
5. Saad 6.0 / 41.0
6. Anisimov 4.5 / 45.5
7. Kahun 3.0 / 48.5
8. Caggiula 2.0 / 50.5
9. Sikura 1.5 / 52.0
10. Kubalik 1.0 / 53.0
11. Kampf 1.5 / 54.5
12. Perlini 1.5 / 56.0
13. Turcotte 1.0 / 57.0

1. Murphy 4.0 / 61.0
2. Keith 5.5 / 66.5
3. Seabrook 7.0 / 73.5
4. Koekkoek 1.5 / 75.0
5. Chariot 3.5 / 78.5
6. Boqvist 1.0 / 79.5
7. Jokiharju 1.0 / 80.5

1. Crawford 4.0 / 84.5
2. Delia 1.0 / 85.5

That is either right at or over the probable 2020/21 cap ceiling and the only outside additions to the team are Chiarot, the #3 pick (Turcotte ?) and Boqvist.

In other words Stan doesn't have much cap space to spend this summer if he plans on re-signing Cat/Strome/Kahun next summer. Am I missing something here?

I'm was supposed to be basking in the euphoric glow of getting the 3rd pick in the draft ... but no ... I had to go do the 2020/21 salary cap math and now the good feelings have been replaced with the ominous dark clouds of reality. Now I'm seriously thinking it might be best to use the #3 pick to send Seabrook's $7M AAV away from the Hawks. Someone rescue me and tell me it will be OK.

Saad, AA and Crow all will be off the books. It will be okay.

unless the do something asinine like sign Karlsson.

Wrong year. It will still be okay.

Hawks need to sign E Karlsson
- PatShart

You can get a taste of his effect on the Sharks if they advance. You can imagine a short term rich deal but E. Karlsson will try to land both longer term and big dollars. Which is why i doubt he whets Bowman's appetite to be competitive in the short term. Your idea on its own merit can stretch the imagination if somehow there is a couple breakthrough improvement with the defensemen and additional scorers pop up - like Perlini - but you would also need some compete physicality mixed in.

All that and you mirror the Sharks team. They are hoping Karlsson is their answer to push farther. It could happen in the wild western conferencence. Their defense and goaltending is what some do not trust.

I do trust that Bowman would not sign Karlsson even if he had never suffered that terrible hinderance of an ankle injury.. And i do hope he does not draft Hughes.

If you are seriious about Karlsson on Chicago, then please explain. I don't want or like it.

Hypothetical situation. Say Q wants Seabs in Florida. Seabs for Reimer. Who says no?

Hawks get a shell of a backup at 3 mil in cap sayings for 2 fewer years.

I don't see Florida doing that, but I would do it and bury him in Rockford.

Tallon says no
Tallon says i need cap space instead for Bobrowski, Panarin or whomever
I don't know how it all works out with current players say Luongo if Bobrowski signs (Columbus goaltender)

Tallon would not take on Seabrook because he knows how bad he had become and the term(years) left nobody will take. No one likely has a worse contract among active players. But just to appease.....you should not play a veteran in Rockford when you have Laakinen and Delia plus prospects later on. Heck i would rather play Tompkins than a Riemer.

#3 to DAL for Heiskanen
- Ogilthorpe2
That would be intriguing. Heiskanen is very young and I saw him against Edmonton skate stride for stride with McDavid and he's exactly what the Hawks need a fast smart defensieman who can actually play defense. Trouble is there is no way Dallas is trading him

ER, allow me to make a few tweaks. I agree with Elbows who stated that AA and Saad won't be around in 20/21.

Trade AA for a pick and or prospect. His trade value is his cap space

Package Saad and a pick or prospect to someone like Carolina for a Pesce or DeHaan who would take Chiarot's spot in your proposed lineup.

AA's and Saad's roster spots replaced by Entwhistle and Hagel.

Replace Koekkoek with Dahlstrom.

Subtractions - AA 4.5M, Saad 6M, Chiarot 3.5M, Koekkoek 1.5M = 15.5M

Additions - Entwhistle 1M, Hagel 1M, Pesce/DeHaan 4.5M, Dahlstrom 1M =
7.5M. Net savings of 8M.

In your follow up post to this post you suggested trading the 3rd pick to help off load Seabs' contract. Can't do that and waste this glorious opportunity to pick up a top prospect.

Also, what did you do with Gus? Trade him off somewhere along the line for a pick or prospect?

Edit - Rounded up Dahlstrom's salary to 1M to be consistent with all the others on ELC's or resignings.

No, this just shows changes are going to happen via trades. I would take AA off that list, CC is a complete guess at that point.
