That's what tanking is. A conglomerate of players have never gotten together in a players only meeting and come to the conclusion that "Hey we should throw games so we can add this rookie next season."

Yeah players don't do that. They can mentally check out of a season once it's a lost cause, but they don't intentionally throw games even when McDavid and Jack Eichel are in the same draft.

Ottawa doesn't intentionally tank. Eugene Melnyk is just that incompetent, and while he deserves a poopty team, the fans don't. Same with pre-McDavid Edmonton.

Ottawa actually had a pretty substantial payroll a couple of years ago. If Melnyk truly wanted to tank and save every penny, he would have never gone after Duchene in the first place. They had some great players earning big salaries.
