if our d is the same, and our goalies are worse, last season the 3 goalies allowed 256 goals

this season 251 goals

I am not counting empty netters

our d sucks, it really does

goalies bailed them out the first few months, and cooled off december 1st on

hell hutton was a potential all star goalie december 1st

goalies are never as bad as the mass makes them out to be, and never as good (few exceptions hasek, roy, brodeur)

- homiedclown

Our D also scored a lot more this year than last year no? That's the trade off.

And Hutton's peak here was him being slightly below average:

That entire streak was puck luck and Skinner en fuego

Hutton was an ECHL potential all-star post December 1st though. Neither of our goalies scored well at all in high danger sv% if I remember correctly and that judges goaltending impact regardless of defense. Freddy Andersen gets shelled on a nightly basis playing in Toronto and he puts up good numbers. Do we need to improve the defense and play a more defensive oriented game from the forwards down? Absolutely. Between Hutton/Ullmark though the goaltending down the stretch was putrid and wasn’t doing us any favours.

side note, does your fancy stats include the quality of the shooters?

I mean if the leafs, bolts and bruins are firing these quality shots, pretty sure it's more effective then the sharks, ducks, kings etc

If I am a betting man, pretty sure the bottom teams in our division had the hardest schedule in the nhl, playing the bruins, leafs, and bolts the most and then facing the islanders, pens, blue jackets, caps, canes and habs

vs strength of schedule from the teams out west

- homiedclown

GSAA measures against what would have happened with an average goalie had he faced the shots that hutton did.

So when it's -13.73, he's performing well below what an average goalie would have done here facing the same shots.

Does it measure the quality of the specific shooter? Probably not, but when its this far below 0.0, not even the variation on that makes a difference.

A shot from the slot is still a shot from the slot. It's not as if all the shots hutton faced were coming off Matthews, Pastrnak or Kucherovs stick. Plenty of 4th liners dummied him this year too.

How times have changed. It went from people bashing me saying I’m “not a real fan” for hoping the team loses, and being solo on the tank train, to a whole blog consisting of posters clamouring for a lotto win with our 5th best odds.

That dumbass never has a plan B. Total putz. They need to get someone in that position that has a little jam. They had one. Got rid of him like he was a 2nd line center.

Checks Gallup poll. Yup, still numero uno.

your right

the entire team collapsed after the first of the year

goal scorers
special teams
d
goalies

epic collapse all the way around

I know for a fact, the wings, sens and sabres did have the hardest schedule in the nhl, which does play a factor when using stats, no matter what people say though

I still can't believe how many people love Andersen but hate Lehner. I'm not saying you do. Their numbers are eerily similar. Their SV%, GAA, quality starts, goals saved above average, shutouts. One finished 4th in Vezina voting during a .918 and 2.81 season while putting up a pedestrian .561 quality start percentage. He had the same amount of really bad starts(A start with less than .850 SV%), 8 as Lehner did last year. Lehner, in need of rehab on a Sabres team that put up 62 points versus the Leafs that put up 105. And before anyone says "Andersen plays more!". The last 3 years Andersen has put up a really bad start in 13.5% of games, Lehner put one up in 11.3%.

I don't get it.

Yeah, Lehner was "only" -6.08 last year. Hutton poop the bed, hard.

Isn't the reason your mancrush Murray was fired because he didn't have a plan B?

Actually, it was specifically because he didn't have a plan B.

Unless the 'B' was for Booze.

Negative ghost rider, the pattern is full. He was fired because he wouldn't fire Dan Bylsma. You must've missed Pegula's presser at the NFL Owner's meeting. They don't fire people for not having a Plan B.

Why do i have the feeling Detroit will win the lottery tonight just to pour salt in the wound for the Sabres passing them on the last day of the year.

Cheering for Lotto Luck is a hell of a lot different than cheering for your team to lose when they’re still in playoff contention
