This whole convo is dumb..

I just don’t understand why people think the playoffs are the same as the regular season. It’s never been that way, soft players rarely perform well in the post season.

I'm here to sign up for the DeBrusk fan club.

Welcome to the DeBrusk fan club!

Your new membership package includes:

- a punch in the face
- Wedgie's bar bill from last Saturday night
- a new hat - try it on! Don't worry that it has the words ".HoHo." written inside it. In fact, you probably can't see the name written inside it.

Go deflate your balls, jerkface.

Leafs were last in powerplay opportunities, 2nd last in PK opportunities.

The answer is pretty simple:

This team is soft as butter. They don't play hard, so nobody ramps it up to play hard against them.

At least not in the regular season...

- Atomic Wedgie

We feel this way and say it alot, but they lost JVR, Bozak, Plekanec, Polak and Komarov and added Tavares, Gauthier, Ennis, Moore. and Muzzin. . .

Overall, they are not really any softer than they were last year, and are better with the puck.

Nylanders game has dropped off and he was flat out terrible this year. He’s the softest player I have ever seen play in the NHL. Luckily this series isn’t going to come down to DeBrusk vs Nylander because we’d be (frank)ed if it did.
- Arctic_AARDVARK

He wasn't terrible.
He was just inconsistent. But lately he had picked up his game.
Like i said before, if willie has a great playoffs, this past season wont matter.

This is true, but as a team game, you score more goals with assists than you do without. I loved Pavel Bure. He didn't win any cups. Granted I also liked Oates, and he also won zero cups.

Pfft. I think we can simply agree they're all losers.

It just might.

Bergeron vs. Matthews
Pastrnak vs. Marner
Marchand vs. Tavares
DeBrusk vs. Kapanen
Krejci vs. Kadri
Krug vs. Rielly
Rask vs. Andersen

Then there's Nylander vs. Wagner? He could really be the difference maker if he wakes up because everybody else has a dance partner and Nylander could be the one who isn't being challenged.

- JohnFergusonJr

That’s a big IF..

But I like how you have Kappy aligned with DeBrusk. Much better comparison.

Kessel also was resilient. Just because you don’t fight, doesn’t mean you don’t skate your bag off.

Is this what we say now after our fanbase collectively booted him out of town for being "soft and lazy"?

He was awful.. had a couple good games in between all the awfulness. He has to compete more, that’s all.

So just for poops and giggles (since everyone is talking about it), I thought I would revisit last year's playoffs, to examine the PPs and PKs.

Obviously this "analysis" is going to ignore what 99% of hockey fans always ignore: there is no reason in any hockey game why penalty calls should be even. They should be called when they are penalties.

Game 1:

https://www.nhl.com/gamec...17030121,game_state=final

5-1 Bruins. Leafs were in it until late in 2nd, when a PPG made it 2-1. Then a crusher to make it 3-1 in last minute of 2nd.

Leafs PP: 0/3

Bruins PP: 3/6

Penalties were actually 3-2 for Boston (i.e., they had 3 penalties), then Leafs took 4 straight in the 3rd, including when Kadri accidentally slipped and ran into the cheating faker Tommy Wingels.

Hits were almost even: Bruins 42, Leafs 37

The fans didn’t boot him, he was traded for assets. I don’t remember anyone hating Phil while he was a Leaf. He was really good here.

If you want to be a fan girl and physical play makes you uneasy, might I suggest you stick to soccer, Juventus maybe? That Rinaldo guy is a man rocket.

Suck it up, buttercup.

I will take the better player every time.

You stick to fan-girling over Debrusk

I think every other Leaf has figured out that you have to do that in order to be successful. Nylander is still waiting for Disney to buy the league.

Game 2: Good Lord, why am I revisiting this?

7-3 Bruins. Pastrnak with 6 points.

Bruins with 4 in the 1st. The rest was just killing time until the flights left for Toronto.

Leafs PP: 1/4

Bruins PP: 2/4

Bruins outhit Leafs: 34-28

If James Tanner is reading this, the Leafs outshot the Bruins 33-28. That's a really meaningful statistic!
