JL, here is a question for your next piece - Do you expect the same assistant coaches to be back? Would Phil Housley be someone to look at to help develop the young Offensive Dmen, or does Brian Campbell have that position nailed down?
- powerenforcer

Choosing Housely would be pretty gutsy for Colliton to select an assistant who has more experience coaching in the NHL then he does.

The only prospect in the AHL, juniors, college, or Europe that screams I should be in NHL to start the season, and if I am not it is a crime, is Joki. (Don't tell me Delia or Sikura.)

The key to next season is Crow playing 55 games at an elite level. The second key is an improvement in team D from the goalie out.

I think they sign their RFA's.

Next year is a gap year. We don't have NHL ready talent in the AHL, juniors, or Europe. Find players in trade or free agency that gives our young prospects time to develop.

Barring a blockbuster Toews, Kane, Saad, ADB, Strome, Kampf, Kahun, Caggiula, Keith, Murphy, Seabs, Gus, Crow are locks. 13 players.

Posters think AA is gone after his July 1st bonus is paid. Maybe. Maybe not. You could build a playoff team with Saad, ADB, AA, Caggiula playing LW. He would be player 14.

You need to choose 2 more defenders from Forsling, Koekkoek, Dahlstrom, and prospects (one of them being the 7th defender). Call that "Pool A". That makes 16.

You need to choose 2 forwards from Sikura, Perlini, and prospects. Call that "Pool B". That gets you 18.

Then you need to add 2 forwards. Maybe 1 is Kubalik. Then you need a tough physical winger. That is 20.

You need to add a top 4 defender. That is 21.

The backup goalie could be Ward, Delia, Forsberg, Nalimov, or an FA. "Pool C". That is 22.

The result. (barring a blockbuster)
LW - Saad, ADB, AA, Caggiula
C - Toews, Strome, Kampf, Kubalik or a trade or FA
RW - Kane, Kahun, 1 from FA or trade and 1 from Pool A
Extra forward from FA or Pool A.
D - Keith, Seabs, Murphy, Gus, a top 4 defender via trade and one from Pool B
Extra D from Pool B.
G - Crow and 1 from Pool C or trade

I think you can trade for a needed player (Dman) from a team against the cap ceiling for draft picks and prospects (without touching the Hawks NHL roster), though there is so much smoke around AA there could be some fire.

You have plenty of cap space to sign the others.

I seem to remember it being mentioned on here awhile back that Jokiharju at Rockford had to do with not exposing him for the expansion draft. Any truth to that, anyone?

Frozen 4 later this week.

Keep an eye on Scott Conway, Providence. That is Perlini's cousin.

I'm pretty sure Kubalik is not a center. Kahun has played center before so maybe he's someone that can play 3C (?). I really don't mind AA and I'm not sure finding a replacement that is both better than he is and cheaper than he is is realistic.

If Kubalik is equal or better in his rookie year than Kahun was, he could be that top-6 winger to play LW with 19-88 or RW with 12-17 - that would be huge and fill one of the holes needing to be upgraded.

If he is anything like his cousin, he will be invisible for half the time. He is already 24. Put up okay-ish numbers in college.

University of Miami is going to have to hold a course on Q speak.
- LAHawk

A primer from Laz

Dear Florida,

Here's a handy guide to Qspeak.

Part I: Evaluating players:
"Special": Freakin' awesome.
"I liked him": Pretty good.
"I didn't mind him": Fine.
"Fine": Not fine.
"Just OK": Bad.
"Ordinary": I might murder him in his sleep tonight.

Part II: Pregame:
"Could be": Will.
"Likely": Definitely.
"Every game is different": I don't want to answer this question.
"We'll see": I don't want to answer this question.
*angry grunt*: I don't want to answer this question and I might murder you in your sleep.

Part III: Miscellaneous:
"Net-net": In summation.
"Things change quickly in our business": I liked last game better.
"PEANUT BUTTER": I am pleased.
*grabs crotch*: I am displeased.

This year counts as his first of 3 NHL seasons. The threshold for that is like 10-11 games. He then has to play 70 games over the next two years or 40 games in his 3rd NHL to be eligible for the draft.

Justin mailbag question: Do hawks make more trades or free agent signings. Here is mine propose lineup through trades and signings some have been mentioned before by myself and others.

Saad toews kane
Dcat strome kahun/kublik
Caggulia eakin perlini
Tanev Kampf hayden

Keith joki
Murphy mcnabb/miller
Charoit Seabrook
Koko

Crawford
Ward if resigned
Delia i dont he is ready just my opinion
AA and forsling are traded for picks and prospects those picks are then traded to vegas for eakin and McNabb or miller
Gust is traded at the draft for a 2nd and prospect or a late 1st round pick this year or a first next year. Tanev signs 3 years between 1.5 and 2million helps out on pk
Chariot signs for 2.5 million for 3 years
Ward if brought back 3million 1 year. The AA and gust salaries cover eakin and McNabb or miller contracts. I would also approach dcat with a contract if 7 million per year for 6 to 8 years. Strome 5.5 million per year for 4 to 6 years. Perlini 1 to 2 years for 1.5 million per year. Other rfa's qualifying offers. Then there should be enough money to do moves during the season if need be. Tanev eakin helps out the pk McNabb or miller and chariot stablizes the defense and gives more time for future d to develop. Sikrua stays in rock ford for other season. Last hope hawks get a top 6 pick in draft lottery but unlikely it happens.

You never came up with any of this. You regurgitated it all from stuff others posted like you always do. Were you just spit balling ?

So what if he regurgitates. That's a better potential lineup than what the Hawks finished the season with.

Wait...if we do bring him back why is AA playing LW and not C? Especially when the 3 and 4C's you suggested are rather weak...

I'm still not letting go of my Panarin/Seabrook dream. Rid ourselves of Seabs and bring back the breadman....

Maybe use Kahun and one of our many promising D prospects as sweeteners in a potential Seabs trade.

I also really like the idea of acquiring Tanev

Panarin-AA-Kane
Saad-Toews-Sikura
Dcat-Strome-Perlini
Drake-Kampf-Tanev

BOOM! Instantly one of the top forward groups in the league

Get some growth and development from our young Dmen(we should draft another with our upcoming 1st round pick IMO), mix them in with Keith, Gus, and Murphy and get elite goaltending from Crow.

In a year or 2 we just might be ready to contend again.

After the Q signing, really think Panarin heads to FL. Already has the house there, liked playing for Q (and, really, after dealing with Torts, Q has to look like an angel), they need a goalie (Bob + Panarin package as suspected), and Dadanov, his former SKA St. Petersburg linemate is there.

If they can make the money work, I’m betting on it happening.

I think he'd rather play with Kane than Dadanov. And he'd rather play in Chicago than FLA. He seemed to really like it here.

Panarin doesn't solve the problems here and is going to take up a lot of cap space when he signs.

Agreed. He’s the last thing this team needs.

Hawks finished 8th in the league in goals for, and 30th in goals against. Another high scoring, defensively lacking winger is not the answer.

Yeah i actually agree with all of this, Panarin will cost a lot and he alone can't get us back to the top...just saying that we can help the team overall by adding him AND removing Seabs while also getting growth and solid contribution from the young defenseman we have.

Not a prudent money decision. I vote no. Whom gets loped off if Panarin then no_________.
