Marner will be a hard one for the Leafs to keep.

If he is compared to Olives then he MUST be an outstanding coach.....

Opinions vary...

There may even be folks out there that are high on Boudreau and low on olives....

Eichel: At this point, Jeff Skinner has to worry about Jeff Skinner...I want him back as badly as you guys do

That has to carry weight. It sounds like Botts will need to incentivize to have him fully commit. Which isn't exactly abnormal. Even Stamkos entered free agency. It's all about what the player sees in the team long term, and his enjoyment with the players and city. Fact of the matter is, he wants to cash in, and it's his right to do so. You can't pay a 65 point guy 9.5-10M, but he won't get that on the open market anyways. Botts will figure it out, and they have time to do so.

Right. At this point, you're still outbidding everyone else. Some guys take less money to go somewhere they like. I don't think that will be an issue here. He'll make sure Buff is one of the highest bidders, and when that happens, he'll sign.

He's a very good player, He's not getting 9 million a year.
I get Mark Stone got it, different circumstances, you have an owner trying to send a message to the league.

I don’t think his cap hit is that bad for us he’s so hard to get off the puck and having a Player on the team that actually has an IQ like Jack could help this team tremendously

not arguing he's a bad player. He may turn into a 7M player, but he simply isn't yet. To be honest, I don't know enough about him to be able to project his long term development/ability.. but I mean.. Reinhart was better.

If the right deal was made, taking on an overpaid young player, I would be very excited about it.

We need more guys who can put the puck in the net, reliably. Taking a 7 million dollar gamble on a guy coming off a 7 goal outing is not smart. We already have one underachieving Nylander. We don't need to double down

Dahlin is going to be working on his strength this offseason, and knowing that kid, he's going to come back 10-15 pounds bulkier. I guess he's going to be working on his skating as well. I can't wait to watch this kid absolutely dominate.

Also, media universally praising Eichel for his maturity.

Him coming in late and obviously out of shape didn’t help him at all yes Matthews was on a tear early on but him and Nylander Had a special connection The year before and you could tell it hurt Matthews later on

I would see what the price is maybe it’s Just risto And I think that’s a fair deal

And on the Alex you can’t deny that he was one of the best players when he came up and then they put him on the bottom line

Bump:

Pegula’s are paying 4/5 coaches & GM’s, trying to make it right (for both franchises). To say they are the problem, is just wrong. They did inherit and save both franchises, in saying that (they don’t have the background to run franchises, I get that). They have tried to bring in different experienced individuals to run their business both off and on the playing field (ice).

They are trying to find the right mix and clean things up, (see Russ Brandon/Doug Whaley - inherited). It’s time to get off their back’s and understand how they continue to try to make things right. To blame the Pegulas, to me is just wrong and one sided. They are trying to give their athletes the best possible facilities/environment in professional sports, to succeed. But yeah, they are to blame for all the franchises downfalls.

Look back at the Sabres since 1970, 2 to 3 years couple grade runs (for 5 decades) and then a rebuild. I’m sticking by my hometown teams and know that good things are to come, we all knew this season was a possible run at a 8th, 9th 10th spot. GMJB is doing what he said, winning in Rochester (these young kids will get a taste of playoffs together). I love the fact GMJB canned Phil this morning, says a lot about his leadership. Would have been easy to keep Housley on for another year, see Darcy!

I’m excited for the upcoming years for both franchises, I feel they are both heading in the right direction. No one is sitting on their hands and excepting the status quo. Just my thoughts!

*Montour trade was the perfect example of GMJB vision (with resources from trades), we will see more of these types of moves moving forward! GMTM tried the fast track rebuild (see the Kane & Robin Lehner moves). JB just trying to clean up!
