I don't think he trades for Skinner without first trading ROR's contract, though.

Where has he?

A cap specialist? Hunwick 2.25, Sheary 3, Scandella 4, Sobtoka 3.25(or something like that) acquired pominville with 2 years at 5.6.

Yeah great utilization of the cap.

Homie said he had the opportunity to trade Bogosian during the offseason we hired Phil.

Over. His. Head.

- Mentalorgasm5

Scandella for one more year at 4M when we will have 20M + in cap space or would you rather have Ennis’ buyout and Folingo for the next 3 years ?

what would lead you to believe he'd want to be here this season?...skinner?...maybe...another year under Housley?...

*shrugs*

if Housley couldn't save him last season, how would he have done so this season...

ror's in a good place...good for him and the blues...he wasn't working in buffalo...bad for the sabres

- Michael Pachla

No one has been working in buffalo

I don’t see how singling out O’Reilly makes sense

Every player he has brought in has had a cap hit that exires after next year at the latest except Berglund, correct?

I'll also add that I believe it's likely you'll see Ristolainen shown the door this offseason as well.

- kingcong39

Correct.

I like Botts and believe he will be good for the team long-term.
That said, he needs to be held accountable as well...and not just blow off his mistakes and roster implications without questioning alot of them...especially in view of the failed roster this year.

Consider the moves he did make as constricting his ability with the Cap:
a) last season,
b) this season that just ended, and
c) next season
correct?

Here's a list to review his player moves:

That's alot more he brought in than what he shipped out.
His moves are very far from unicorns and rainbows.
The best move for the team was made by zberglund

A bad one

Sobatka + Berglund basically equal RORs Cap hit

If we could afford Skinner with them,
then we could do so with ROR as well

Natural development
A top 6 forward center/or wind
A different goalie
Coach
Risto trade

Edit- Keep Skinner

- sbroads24

Is there a goalie upgrade available?
Seems like we are gonna have this tandem for another year

And if we trade Risto, we need a top4 RH defenseman
They aren’t so easy to acquire

Dahlin second best rookie season ever.

Things are so terrible because a 28 year old second line center and an inebriated mess of a goalie is gone.

Our Gm is fine. Future is bright

sure, short-term...but I think they brought skinner in with the intention of signing him long-term...jack at $10m...skunk's due for a hefty raise after next season...dahlin the season after that...couldn't fit all of that along with a skinner and ror long-term deal

And we were still terrible...
but “it wasn’t working with ROR”
So it must have been his fault

That narrative is utter nonsense

Yet we are talking about signing guys like Hayes or maybe even Duchene to long term deals now, right?
That’s no different for the Cap than just keeping ROR

ROR didn't want to be here and his play last year clearly indicated that, yeah he looks really good this year but my bet is if he was still here he would look like a different person. Sometimes players don't fit with certain others, it happens.

Lehner was bad with us, so it made sense to move on
That’s differ than ROR
He was a good player here
Maybe he had to go for different reasons
Ok
But let’s stop blaming a really good player for our struggles

ROR is gone...
and we STILL STINK

It wasn’t his fault
Good grief

Duchene is pure speed though. I can see him lasting into his mid thirties. ROR I cant see being effective past 30. We can complain about Danny and Drury leaving in 2007 all we want but what did Chris really accomplish with the Rangers ? I think he and ROR are cut from the same cloth.

ROR wasn’t a problem, wasn’t a solution either. By the time this team is a Cup Contender, ROR won’t be the same player he is today.

Again... different point

It was that we wouldn’t have traded for Skinner with ROR here
The Cap would’ve fit just fine

And ROR would still have been tradable this offseason for sure
And most likely for the next few years as well

I agree with your point though
Duchene’s drop off will likely happen after RORs
I just don’t think ROR is “already declining” like you do
He’s still got some years left
We will see how many

The same reason why we suck this year. Lack of depth, poor coaching, poor goaltending. The Blues are the same team they are today then they were when Armstrong was ready to sell off half the team. In comes Berube and Binnington and ding ding ding we have a winner.

He is a good player but he wasn't going to change our team and has a long term contract that was going to be tricky in a few years.

And for why we weren't better, IMO it is pretty obvious that Housley didn't really know what he was doing and couldn't even motivate guys consistently. He was just to soft and over his head. I had more that one person saying he wasn't going to make it as a head coach when he was hired and as it turns out he is a great assistant he just can't run the show.
