2020 will be interesting... the Dems are letting Biden self destruct, I will assume they will cheat Sanders again... so the next in line in their polls is... the guy who lost to Cruz I believe.

The funniest part is that Obama has the exact same views on immigration when he was running. The only reason the majority of people are against them is because it’s coming from Trumps mouth. If it was coming from Obama, they’d be like “well that makes sense it’s a valid argument. We should strengthen the border.” That’s where the identity politics have (frank)ed everything up.

Yeah I listened to Rogan’s podcast with Andrew Yang and he has reasonable ideas coming from the left for me. I’d be interested to see if he gains any steam along the Democrats. His ideas on Universal basic income are interesting I’m just curious as to where the money would

The idea of a basic income that keeps up with inflation is interesting to say the least. Those that don’t work don’t get it unless under disability but those that work don’t have to worry about not having enough.

The difference being that the wall wouldn't have played with the Obama constituency. Democrats can't lose the Hispanic vote and that's the identity politics.

And that's why the immigration issue really frustrates me. It doesn't seem to me that politicians actual give that much of a damn about immigration reform, and just use it as a playing chip to appeal to subsections of their constituency. Want the hispanics? Pretend like you love immigrants and pay lip service to sanctuary cities. Your primary base is lower class whites? Make a big fuss about how immigration is steal their jobs. Wanna get middle class suburban whites? Play up every time a foreigner commits a crime in the news cycle and raise paranoia.

The shame is that our immigration policy is actually super dumb and needs a lot of reform, but this made up battle over whether or not we should let immigrants in or not in the first place is taking center stage and holding back any real reform.
