Most, if not all GMs rely on their scouts for mid-late round picks. Occasionally, the GM notices a guy when scouting his own players or high end prospects, and encourages scouts to look into said after thought guys. But for later rounds, it's typically the word of the scouts.
- TheSabresTaco

This is very true. The later picks is where the scouts need to shine. It's nice knowing that we have hit on a late round pick.

they didn't
I never said they did, and said they were doomed in early december

they tried to get duchene to agree to a contract and trade for him

just like vegas did with stone

they were trying to build their roster for next season at the deadline, see montour

- homiedclown

I think it's pretty clear Duch wants UFA. I wonder how hard the Sabres will drive here. It almost seems like the whole ROR excerise was a colossal waste of time. Least we got that 1st though.

I'm not saying the losing is falls solely on Sam's shoulders. .

Should be an interesting offseason.
- SABRES 89

Do you think Botts and Housley return?

My guess would be assistant coach changes and of course more trades...

Well technically Murray did draft him but it was Andersson who made the suggestion. I guess we can thank Gustav Possler for us drafting VO.
- mhp

I'm on board with this. And Lias Andersson has been hitting lately.

Edit- he's not with the team anymore. Shame. I think our Euro guy is Teemu Numminen. I don't even think we have a Russian guy.

They're both under contract for next year already

The extension would remove “lame duck” status.

Prospects are just that. But, I like what I'm seeing from Laaksonen, Bryson and Weissbach (all 3 pretty much nobodies in 2017), and Pekar and Cronholm from 2018. All of those players will see Rochester in the very least.

So was the holdup a contract extension for Duchene? If he wouldn't sign then, he's certainly not signing in July, after seeing this sh!t show here.

For those that care, my early prediction for the frozen four is UMass over Providence. UMass has a stud in goal in Matt Murray who is undrafted and could be signed as a FA. He has shutouts in the first two games of their playoffs, he shut out Notre Dame and Harvard to reach the final four. They also have Cale Makar who is generational at the college level.

I think the only Sabres prospect in the tournament is Jacob Bryson/Providence D. He's completing his junior year at PC and hopefully we sign him after the tourney.

Rather have Duchene at 8m Instead of Skinner

Not necessarily. He didn't sign with the Jax either. Some players just want to see their market. A lot do. Common practice. I would think this would be an extremely appealing spot to sign in with a giant gaping hole at 2C. If you can accept that role, I'd be all over it if it were me.

Correct, it's Numminen. He's been scouting over there for us for several years. Andersson is now a HC in Finland, I think.

It's feeling more and more like this will be the case. He has the same hype as Borgen last year in terms of needing to get signed.

I wouldn't sign Skinner for more than 6.5 now. His slump has taken big cash off the table imo.

Well, past 3 years, he's got Laaksonen, UPL, Weissbach, Cronholm, Asplund and Davidsson to his resume. That's pretty good.

We shouldn't be allergic to talent, just because they've been around losing. You'd get fired on the spot for an ideal like this. You get rid of players that either hurt you, want to be overpaid, or someone will give you someone or something back that will help your team more than that player. Sam Reinhart does not fit into these categories.
- TheSabresTaco

More of the same

Why would we want to stay status quo?

Doesn't continuity or lack of play a roll in winning and losing?

My points is: some of these guys are hurting us
And probably making too much.

Someone may even offer something of value

I think we're on the same page. Minus me getting fired

Just like players don't look at the short term (his own words) we can't either, and neither does management. You look at a ton of factors, but age, production and history are huge. He's an avg 60 point guy who has great possession and can score goals, amongst other traits. He's also not 23, but you need to also buy UFA years, so that almost washes out. You pay him for what he's always been. A 30 goal, 55-65 point guy, plus UFA tax.

I agree with just about everything here and your previous posts as long as you don't include Sam. He's an underpaid, 23 year old 60 point player, and may even increase next year. Getting equal, not to mention more, value for that is insanely rare.

Agreed. Bryson has that offensive upside but he's a bit smallish for my tastes. Rochester is an ideal spot for him to develop.

Speaking of Borgen, I think him and OV make the roster next year. CJ might if they don't bring back Larsson and/or Girgensons. I have a feeling Nylander is trade bait and that's one of the reasons why they called him up.
