I'm torn. I'd like to end with a couple wins, but solidifying 2nd last could help big time in the future, when it matters. I'm probably leaning towards losing, but will admit I was rooting for the comeback against NSH...thought we played a decent game.

A source tells us that he hasn't lost the team, and that he has some vocal defenders on the Sabres; none the least captain Jack Eichel. The exit interviews will be a key, however, in determining if Housley is back for Year 3. There are a lot of reasons why Buffalo was such a disappointment this season, and most of them have to do with construction over coaching. The Ryan O'Reilly trade was a dud. The defense remains paltry. They're below the league average in both save and shooting percentage.

The prediction here is that Housley comes back next season, with a short leash. There's something to be said for giving the Sabres a modicum of stability entering 2019-20. The question, however, is what the Pegulas think about that scenario, and how much GM Jason Botterill would fight for his guy should they want a change.

If they had the same record, but the losses were more like the Nashville game, I'm sure there would be a different feeling at the end of the season. Some would still only look at the record, but the intelligent ones would see that they are closer than they have been. Unfortunately, the team gave up instead of at least competing the last 3 months.

How hard is it to see that putting your 4th line out right after a goal does more harm than good?

How hard is it to see that playing young talent with Girgensons and Larsson doesn't help that player?

Edit: I am not saying Botterill doesn't shoulder some of the blame as far as how the season went, I was just specifically pointing out Housley's terrible usage of players.

Even if the franchise considers all those other hires to be mistakes, it doesn’t make sense to let the Housley mistake continue just because it’s the last in a long line.

the way all parties make it sound, you'd have to guess it is 85% Housley's decision. Besides transactions, I'm sure they discuss player performance daily and maybe determine together, let's put this player here, see what happens.
