To be fair Smith has been spoon fed starts for the last 3 months (e.g Rittich would face teams like Bruins/Bolts and Smith would get Arizona/Wild or some poop). But ya, Smith should probably get the start in game 1--I suspect we will need both goalies at some point in the post-season anyway. - Saskabush
Not really. Smith didn't start against Tampa, but besides that they've faced pretty similar competition since Christmas.
Smith also played in both games this year against the Bruins. |

Smith is starting...I have been his harshest critic but he has played well down the stretch, he gets the nod |

Smith is playing for respect. Really competitive guy and had a poor year but has played better as of late. Also I pray to the hockey gods he will take fewer risks with the puck in the playoffs. |

I am just a little torn as Rittich is 3-0 against the Avs this year.. |

Ughh, I didn't feel like looking up the actual games... Smith started the easier of the back to backs and absolutely faced lesser competition than Rittich.
Smith started against NYR - Rittich started against the Jets
Rittich faced CLB and Smith faced the Sens
Rittich faced Vegas and Smith faced Arizona
Those are three examples---all from March. Peters was obviously spoon feeding him starts to get him going and it appears that it may have worked as he played better down the stretch. He even earned the start against the Sharks for the last big game of the season. |

If you're trying to make a factual argument, you should probably check the facts. Rittich played the Rangers and Smith started against the Jets. Smith also started against Capitals, Penguins, and IslandersX2 since the beginning of February. There's very little difference in the quality of opponent they've started against. Rittich was also spoon fed games during the same stretch. He got both games against the Devils and the other start against Ottawa.

Vegas would be lucky to get to game six against the Flames and I doubt they'll get past the Sharks.
The only team that the Flames should worry about is the Blues. |

Only team I am worried about is Colorado. Not going to be easy. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. |

Blues are definitely the favourites in the West. Flames are a close second. |

Not getting ahead of anything, just pointing out that we could still draw Dallas as our first round opponent. We lost the season series against them so...

So who's everyones choice to start on the 3rd pairing with Anderson?
With each of Prout, Fantenburg, Kyllington and Stone coughing up the puck at various times vs the Ducks. My choice would be Valimaki. Guy is silky smooth, cool under pressure. Peters is going to have options. |

The way they pooched it last night, it's almost like they want Calgary. |

No The flames should be worried about the avs! The avalanche are since the all star break, are one of the top three teams in the league . goaltending is solid, and McKinnon is a beast in the playoffs. backlund and monahan will have their hands full with him. Let’s not look ahead you dumb ass! |

Avalanche and Stars don't have the depth at forward or defence to hang with the Flames. Either matchup is tilted heavily in the Flames' favour.
Mackinnon can't be that big of a beast. He's yet to make it past the first round and this year won't change that. Their top line is fantastic, Barrie is okay, and there's no one else that matters after that.
Flames are the second best team in the West. Let's not start panicking because the Avalanche got hot against some crappy teams. |

Well I wouldn’t say panic! I am confident that the flames will win in 6. But let’s play the avs before we look ahead. Mackinnon is a beast he had no real supporting cast last time they made the playoffs. Yes they have one fantastic line and that can win you a series .especially. In the first round! But yes flames should win. way more depth. Goaltending. Hopefully ours shows up. |
