Same, tough to see the guy falling off a cliff here production wise. He was underpaid for so long and it seems may never get to "cash in". He is currently looking ta a disappointing summer. A big playoffs is needed. - ClaudeFather

Criteria if we get a new guy on defense...
NHL club with many young, talented defenseman seeks a veteran all-situations plus defenseman, age 27 to 32, who can play the right side, preferably RH, log 22-25 minutes a night, be a leader on and off the ice, has a solid work ethic, mentor the up and coming players, and comes to win.
It’s a big ask. At risk of really stirring the pot...who is out there that meets this?
Erik Karlsson
Jared Spurgeon
Alex Pietrangelo
PK Subban
John Klingberg
Drew Doughty
...?
What are the chances any can be plied away from their current team? In the event that we strike out on meeting all the requirements, which ones would you bend? Why?
I would bend on age and “proven leader” first—substituting minimum age 24 with 3 full years in the NHL and leadership potential. Next try, if that fails, I would bend older on the age—substituting max age of 34 and term of 2 years. Last thing I would bend is playing the right side. If they do that, he would be anchoring the second pairing, and we shouldn’t bend any other qualifications with that one. - NC Flyers Fan
Spurgeon is interesting. Dude can play a ton of minutes. |

My question is, what is another veteran defenseman going to do that Gudas and Mac already doing?
I don’t think fans on this board realize just how good Provorov, Sanheim and Myers already are. We went from not having a number one guy since Kimmo Timonen, to three possibilities. Now some of you want to give up a puzzle niece for a guy who can talk to the players in a tone Gudas can’t?
It just doesn’t make sense to me. Hägg and Ghost are also really good at what they specialize in. They’re not perfect, I’m not even as big a Ghost fan as everyone else but he has elite offensive talent that I’m not ready to move on from. - SuperSchennBros
This is a good discussion because everyone is probably a little different on this. I give a hard “no” to losing Provy. I don’t think it makes any sense to trade Sanheim or Myers due to age and high upside filling a definite need, so 2 more “no’s.” We have invested time into Morin and he has the ability to reach a solid 2nd pair so my vote is “no” for trading him too. You have to admit...those 4 are young.
I am willing to listen on Ghost, Hägg, Gudas and AMac for different reasons. Do I think they all have value? Most definitely Yes. They just don’t fit together for me with the other four young d-men. I think if we keep all of Ghost, Hägg and Gudas, there will be too much sitting in the press box and not enough development. Who sits?
I think you can trade one of those 3 and possibly rotate someone for one season but then you really have to make a decision. I can’t see re-signing Gudas over the homegrown guys. I see going with a top 3 vet, Provy, Sanheim, Myers, Morin and Hägg or Ghost going forward. |

My expectation is to not re-sign Gudas when the time comes but that time isn’t now. If Morin isn’t a full time NHLer by the time Gudas walks, maybe Morin isn’t worth keeping at that time either. |
