New coach. Top 4 d. Center depth. Bottom 6 speed. Sign back up

My question for all of you is if we acquire Panarin, who centers him?

- cdearth23

Not far off from my list..

1. Q..though I dont think Gordon is a horrible coach so wouldnt be opposed to his being an assistant.

2. Offensive depth

3. Add any players with any grit as this is the softest team I have ever seen.

Anyone interested in Eric Staal as some center depth? Maybe a two year deal? Bridge for Patrick. Speed isn't exactly there but this guy is still putting pucks in the net.

I think we have been back and forth on this a bit so here are my thoughts. I agree with your assessment of G as a center, I think it is the role he is best suited for. But my feeling is that if he plays on the wing, he will have more in the tank at the end of the season and during a hopefully not too distant future run towards a cup. That run in the playoffs has not happened, so i don't know if it will hold water, only time will tell.

I personally like G on the left wing, and the left half wall on the PP. I think it sets up his one-timer better...much like Ovi...you just wait for either of those guys to drift to that spot and they either have a perfect pass or shot that ends up in the net...I know Gordon has used him on the right...I just don't think that maximizes G's strengths.

- JW98FlyerFan

I’m gonna ignore this because you ignored that fact that this has nothing to do with G at center.

Campbell was their vet, yes. And once Keith and Seabrook were ready to become that they traded him away. So get yourself a top guy and in a few years when Provorov and Sanheim are those guys your trade him away.
- youarewrong

What exactly made Brian Campbell so special the the Black Hawks defense? For starters he was average at best in his own zone and beyond that he was traded.

I’m not understanding this need for a veteran leader on defense. You had Andrew MacDonald wearing an “A” on your defense. Got us nowhere.

It’s been clear to me that G is most productive at left wing. He doesn’t look like he struggles with right wing. It’s possible, I’m guessing, that he would need longer with same linemates to get comfortable and build chemistry at right wing.

I wouldn’t use the word “struggled” at right wing. I’m not saying, it’s clear he’s not as strong on the right side. Giroux isn’t lighting the world on fire over there by abc stretch.

So Yesterday I purposed to trade Ghost for Buff or Trouba... Lets just say Trouba and resign him for 7 mil for 8 years. And I want to Sign Panarin. People gave me hell for Voracek for Grabner and 2 arizona firsts so instead lets say Glachenyuk. Lets figure the money out. Im guessing 11 for Panarin, 5 for Konecny, Laughton and Hartman get 2 each... just a bit more then Raffl imo. Provorov gets 6 and Talbot get 3.5. Forgot Sanheim lets say he gets 3. And trading Gudas of course.

Panarin 11-Couturier 4.3-Giroux 8.3
JVR 7-Galchenyuk 4.9-Konecny 5
Lindblom .9-Patrick .9-Frost .9
Raffl 1.6-Laughton 2-Hartman 2
Voroboyov .8

Provorov 6-Trouba 7
Morin .7-Sanheim 3
Hagg 1.1-Myers .7
AMac 5

Hart .7
Talbot 3.5

That puts us at 77.3 million plus 1 for Schlemko 78.3. We are supposed to have 83 million cap.

And IMO this is a Stanley cup contending team.

You've drastically overrated Galchenyuk.

It's probably important to have a strong voice for the young D core, who's to say Gudas isn't a respected veteran voice though? If not a solid Vet a respected coach for the D.

He would be the fourth leading scorer on our team after Jake... So idk what this good god no is about.

IMO Galchenyuk and a 1st and 2nd from Arizona is a good get for Jake. You will have an evaluation year of him to see if he has a place on the team. Panarin will more then make up for Jake's numbers.

As for Sanheim this is year 2 for him... I think he gets a bridge deal that would make him harder for Portland to want to take if it comes to that.

- youarewrong

Do you honestly believe that a team would trade Voracek for a player that they need to evaluate to see if he has a place on the team in the future. How does that make any sense at all?

Sanheim signed to a bridge deal would not deter Portland from selecting him. It's moot anyway because it is a guarantee that Sanheim will be protected by the Flyers. So off base.

I have no idea if Gudas or Mac are a respected voice. I would assume so, seeing that Gudas just had a solid bounce back season and Mac is one of our assistant captains. Why would we go out and get another older player just to be a voice?

And yet somehow, we need an old player on defense for some reason.

Yeah, I just haven’t seen G on the right wing with the same center for enough games to formulate a good opinion. He was with Coots for over a year at left wing, and we got a good look at that. Which was very nice for production. IDK.

How many playoff games combined does Hagg, Provorov, Myers, Sanheim, Gudas, and Ghost have? Without really adding it up I'm saying under 30. You dont think that could be improved with a Vet?

I'm with you, I don't think we need to because Gudas is a veteran that plays the game hard and I would think the young guys respect. I think it is important to have a leader back there, if you took out Gudas and Amac I'd say maybe but I think we are fine.

Addition through subtraction. I'm tired of the inconsistencies of Voracek and its not like your getting nothing. In getting AG, on a contract year that could be flipped for more assets if your not happy, and an Arizona 1st, and maybe more. And if you sign Duchene or Panarin, their numbers plus AG will be a lot more then Voracek. And your saving about 3 million in cap.

I did? Isn't he close to a 20 goal, 40 point player that can play any forward position on a 4.9 million contract?

Not trying to be a Richard, but signing duchene or panarin should have nothing to do with a bad trade involving voracek. This definitely makes the team worse for the short term.

I'd like to replace Gudas or Hagg with Morin and a vet with higher upside than Gudas. Hagg becomes 7th Dman.
