All this tank talk makes me realize the NHL's policy to implement a lottery to discourage tanking is a complete disaster. Everyone still wants to tank the same amount. The results are just somewhat randomized.

What the NHL needs to do is implement the draft so the top team to miss the playoffs gets the top pick. Make everyone fight to move up. Your team finishes 31st, you pick 15th.

Right now you have teams scrambling to get to the bottom by choice. The way you stop that is stop the incentive. Obviously not everyone is tanking but some teams suspiciously can't win dinky doo all of a sudden. Buffalo ,,,,

Yes this hurts this does potentially hurt the truly poopty; but they could still become a competitive club without a top 14 pick. It's not like very high quality players aren't available.

I looked at his numbers and they arent bad but it is college. He's also 5'11". I feel like he'll probably be a butcher type player which we dont need another of.

I would trade endless demise and poor management of the Devils, and infinite Rags cups.. if Erika would be my wife. Would you not take that trade?

..these are the things I think about instead of line combos and our actual team because none of that matters in the slightest these days. We suck. Zacha sucks. The good players are hurt. Nico is moving along. Yada yada yada.

We will plan better next year. I think I did over a dozen games this season.

Don't be so sure of that: we won disposable lotteries. Consider the Blackhawks, who moved from 5 to 1: their pick at 5 was Karl Alzner, but instead, they got Patrick Kane.

Now the Devils moved from 9 to 4... at 9, the pick was Dougie Hamilton, who is also a first pairing quality defender (except on the offensive side). Larsson was on the defensive side.

The Devils also moved from 5 to 1 in a year where centers were abundant in the top ten, so instead of picking at 5 where they would have gotten Elias Pettersson (in both scenarios, all other things being equal, of course), arguably the better player, they got Nico Hischier.

I think the only thing really lucky about moving 5 to 1 is that Ray Shero and his team didn't pick the wrong guy.
