Jack Eichel is having a Derek Roy type of season and people are slobbing his knob like he is top 10 in scoring.

Career highs in goals and assists, points... in a year where there are over ten 40-goal scorers, forty players at a .ppg or bettet, and almost ten more players over 90 points, with possibly 5 guys who will finish with 100 points.

He has been a disappointment because he ain't a selke candidate now, is he? Meanwhile, almost identical numbers from a true 2-way center that we traded away...

Jack has not had a special season. He does not dominate. He is what he is right now - a step above Derek Roy.

- BeadyEyedDouche

You couldn't be further from the truth, comparing him to Roy.

Here's a little primer for another coach to Phil in.

https://theathletic.com/8...d-be-on-the-sabres-radar/

Not too in depth, but it gets some of the candidates out there. I think the checklist would and should be pretty long when considering the next guy. Hopefully he's progressive enough to understand advanced analytics, open enough to communicate with his players on and off the ice, smart enough to use players and line combos that actually work, and primarily, how do you get your players to listen to you to battle adversity. How do you make your players play within the system you establish so they don't veer when things are not going their way?

what did you call your coach?
- homiedclown

As a child or as an adult?

I've heard Lindy, Darcy, Scotty, Joel (Q). No one calls coaches 'coach' or 'Mr. Housley'.

Heck, they even called Imlach, Punch.

This idea that Jack doesn't respect Phyllis? Would YOU respect him, with all the crap and mistakes and bad decisions you see him make?

without knowing what's available out there, realistically I think they can:
--hire an experienced coach (Q, Vigneault)
--re-sign skinner (hiring one of those two coaches might help that)
--buy out Sobotka
--let Gus and Larry walk
--re-sign e-rod and McCabe
--shoot for one mid-six ufa forward (Dzingel, Zuccarello, hayes, nelson, ferland)
--see what it would take get Brian Boyle for a couple of years (overpay if necessary)
--plan on adding Smith, Olofsson, Nylander, pilut and possibly Thompson to the lineup
--move on from one of Scandella or Bogo
--consider ufa goalie options, barring one, re-sign Ullmark to a one-year deal
--continue focusing on development in Rochester and Cincinnati
--continue feeding the pipeline
--be cautious about throwing around the extra first-rounder this year, but if a Montour-type trade comes along, go for it

- Michael Pachla

Golf clap for you Pach. Very well done. I probably would move on from both Scandella and Bogo but that's me. And while we can all dream that Okposo will go away, the reality is that he isn't going anywhere, unless you offer up a 1st - which i wouldn't do.

And he will. First year captain and some (not you) think he instantly becomes Messier.

Yeah, 3rd period. You know Rob Ray hears some great stuff down there, most of which he probably can't repeat.

You know it's time to axe your coach when Tortorella seems like the one that got away....

Lol did you just compare Derek Roy to Jack Eichel?

This little spiel of yours just shows how little it seems you know about the NHL.

We’ve seen what ROR did with our team and honestly the team has a better record without him. He wouldn’t have the numbers he has in St. Louis in Buffalo.

I'm not Pach, but if you have the Athletic, check this article out about potential FAs.

I get that it’s the end of the season,
but Jack needs to tone down the drinking too
He’s been partying quite a bit lately

I get it- he’s only 22
But the optics don’t look good
And he’s the conductor of the “give up on the season” train

We need to see growth outta Jack as much as anyone

I would love Ferland and the energy he would bring. I wouldn’t mind if they brought back Larry either. Good Pk guy.
