That was my point. The fact that they are only top-heavy to themselves makes the scarier.

However, go sneak a peak at SJ, CGY and WPG. They might have the deepest scoring.

All those teams are stocked but I believe Tampa to the be the stockiest haha....also...only one can make it out of the West...

Well let's look at this for a second...

Saying Tampa is top-heavy is actually correct(scoring-wise), but the scary thing is they've scored so many goals that they're only top-heavy relative to their own team, not the rest of the league.

-3 players have 39, 42 and 41 goals.
-5 other players have 40+ points

So yeah, you could attempt to shut down one line in order to win, but then you have to try and score on a lot on a team that's one of the stingiest teams in the league in allowing goals.

- Rinosaur

Yeah, Tampa has 3 star forwards that are clearly better than the others, but everyone on their 2nd and 3rd lines is scoring at a top 6 level.

Tampa is lethal all around. They score tons of goals all throughout the lineup and allow very few. If we're ever going to look at the most basic of stats, a team who scores more than everyone else by a large margin and top five in allowing the least? That's pretty much the best recipe right there.

Hedman is one of those that is day to day currently.

I agree, they have other good players, but Hedman missing would be a blow. Think Strahlman is also hurt right?

Tampa, CGY and SJ all have eleven players with 10+ goals. That's pretty (frank)ing scary.

Indeed. Crazy accomplishment. I believe the parity in the league to much, much higher now than in those years though, especially 77.

Good point. There's no Rockies or Barons to beat up on nowadays.

Penguins have nine players with 11+ goals, but the interesting item there is the health of the team. The Pens only have three forwards who've played 70+ games.

Going out on a limb, the Pens' scoring depth is on par with the aforementioned teams. They just have't been healthy enough to match.

I'm thinking about picking Vegas over them, looks like a different team with Stone.

The defense has also been in shambles the majority of the year, which affects the forwards' ability to generate consistent offense. When you put us having nine 11+ goal scorers in the context of health and lackluster blue line, there's a lot to like about the Penguins going into the post season if they can get healthy and optimize their blue line when Letang returns.

We’ve yet to see everyone in the lineup since Schultz’ return. It will be great to see what this team really looks like.

Even if they decide to keep the Johltz pairing together, which greatly marginalizes one of our better defenders, I still think this defense could be the best we've ever seen it when Letang comes back. Gudbranson isn't the lug I thought he was, so even though I'm not super excited about a Mattanson pairing, I think it could be a deployable, semi-competent shutdown pairing which would allow us to shelter Johltz in the offensive zone and reduce the times they get hemmed in the D zone.

Pens have 4 star forwards which is probably an advantage on most teams. Hornqvist, Rust, and McCann are all scoring at a 40 point pace here, but don't have the games played. Bjugstad, Simon, ZAR, Blueger are all above 30. Cullen who is at 20 is the lowest of the top 12, so we have scoring depth. I definitely feel we are under the radar.

Big key is how good Murray is playing.

Anyone else interested in seeing where Adam Fox ends up? I would like to see the Pens make a play but with JJ and EG locked up we don't really have room.

Hoping for a Maatta/Schultz #1, not Maatta Trotman

He'll be with the Rangers, Isles or Devils. He 100% wants to be in the NYC area.

Canes are going to try and trade him, but don't have a lot of leverage. Rangers probably would be content to wait it out if they think they'll get him as a UFA anyway, but if the Isles or Devils think they could get him signed, they might be tempted to toss a second or something our way for him.

Supposedly the Rangers are going to trade Giorgiev(sp?). Could be a deal there

Really? That's interesting. But with Nedeljkovic coming up, I wonder if they'd do it. I don't think you want to go in to next season with two 23 year old unproven guys in net.

Gioegiev looks pretty darn good and has a sample size. Not sure what he will cost, but to be a tandem if him and Mrazek? Not too bad.

I know nothing about the guy you mentioned.
